Really liked the first one but this one started out so lame with the big self-congratulating pat on the back. Had to really work hard to stay with this story. It started to pick up but was short and didn't develop the story well. A little too absurd and not in a good way. Adam Baldwin does a good performance but the story didn't help him at all.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've recommended this story to many others. The story is a little old fashioned since it's set in the 1940's and the language is a little decorus and formal but the narration brings out the personalities which highlight the mystery, the humor and makes it enjoyable and move fast. The gentleman thief character is a fun puzzle to unravel and with the narration, you will enjoy him more and more as the story goes on.

Any additional comments?

Can't say enough how well the narration captures the nature and tone of this book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Always on the edge of my seat. Never expecting what is next. Gregg Hurwitz is my new favorite author, if my heart can stand the next one. This is my second book I've listened to of his and the stories are always different and have a great twist. Without spoiling it, this one was heartbreaking at times. His male main characters are ordinary people who have to dig in deep and do impossible things. Nothing is as it seems. He also has some fascinating secondary characters you just have to like. His villians are bad in some crazy ways.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Enjoyed all of Scott's performance and especially the character of Shep. Tying Scott Brick and Gregg Hurwitz together is a win every time.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This book was definitely film worthy.maybe something like Who's your Daddy, What's your name?

Any additional comments?

You have to pace yourself with Gregg Hurwitz books - a heart can't take so much excitement non-stop. .

What did you love best about The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry?

The characters were all interesting and I enjoyed all of them. I came to care about all of them and loving books, this was a fun setting.

What did you like best about this story?

Covered the characters through a long time frame and you get to know so much about them.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's an enjoyable narrator, I've heard other books of his and he brings the books to life.

Any additional comments?

This was an audible editor recommended book and I am glad I took a chance on it. You are drawn in and it's a sweet journey.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would change adding all the boring details listing stores.

Would you be willing to try another book from Becky Corwin-Adams? Why or why not?

Probably not listen to another by author but definitely by narrator.

Which scene was your favorite?

Enjoyed the story of the customer who paid with money kept in their sweaty armpit.

Any additional comments?

This story was really one for people who lived regionally in Bryan or Defiance Ohio. Or maybe someone who was a die hard Kmart employee. Too much minute boring detail on the actual stores and the history of stores that came and went. Was expecting more of a frolicking bunch of stories of customers and that came way later and not enough. And it always felt like the stories were too short - where were the fun descriptive details. I felt like there were some hidden things or private jokes in some of those stories that weren't to be shared with the listener. I have worked in retail in a small private five and dime and was looking for more. The Narrator made this book a good listen - he was very talented.

What was most disappointing about Jillian Lauren’s story?

That we didn't get to hear much. Susie did most of the talking and said it all and left Jillian only to agree. I wanted Susie to be quiet so I could actually have Jillian tell in her words.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Too much talking

Any additional comments?

Susie, step aside and let your guests talk.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, enjoy this series. Have been waiting a while for this character's story and it is a good one from the start. I am also enjoying this new narrator - he doesn't detract from the story and brings his own brand to it and makes it little different than the previous ones.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of them, finally getting a deeper look into Steele's team

Any additional comments?

Don't let the other reviewers comments on the narrator deter you from this story. While I enjoyed Harry Berkeley for the other ones, he can be a little bit over dramatic. This narrator gives this story a fresh voice and does the storyline proud. There won't be any confusion on who is speaking. Just jump in for a good Maya Banks adventure.

Readers Voice takes away from sweet story

Total

Always love Suzanne Brockmann books - this one had a nice story that kept you engaged. However the readers slow voice with a lot of stiltedness (is that a word) made it a little annoying and grating. And her voice is so much older than the female character. I don't know if she was trying to modulate her voice like Bostonians but it was not pleasant. Loved johnny though, as a character.

Just shut up already

Total

Revisado: 04-14-09

Okay, this is more about the author and the book and less about the reader. The author likes to throw in every phrase he possibly can when one will do. It's tiresome and indulgent and screams "see how many words I know, aren't I clever?" He can't just say - "she was nervous", he has to say in 5 more phrases "her pulse raced, her pulse raced like she was running a marathon, like a marathon run by ..., blah blah blah." So when you're listening to an audiobook, it's magnified a hundred times. You want to say, "we get it, move on or shut up". The reader has a good voice that matches the character but the words she has to read are so tedious and tiresome. I'm struggling to get through this.

I liked the plot and characters of this book. Had some real excitement and unique "murders". Only had two small annoyances, the reader had such a gravelly voice that took some getting used to but never really felt right and the author threw in some "copspeak" lingo that wasn't familiar and felt ostentatious and was unnecessary. Would recommend this to anyone.
