Entertaining Podcast, Dated (2009) Cultural Refs
Revisado: 06-18-23
More of an entertaining podcast with bite sized lessons that introduce some chinese phrases.
Not good for learning how to speak fluently, but good for just short nuggets.
The cultural references and food segments show the lack of research the hosts did and only reflect their own personal experiences from Northern China and Shanghai. They fail to realize that American/Canadian Chinese cuisine is heavily influenced by the Cantonese immigrants, so that's why is so different than Shanghai and Northern China. The pop cultural bits are quite dated since this podcast is from 2009 and China has changed massively since then.
Not researched information segments are more reminiscent of "personal travel blogs" more than "great courses" lectures.

Not Logical or Entertaining Story
Revisado: 02-22-22
The author tries too hard to isolate the sentients aboard Starlight Beacon so makes up illogical situations to further her theme.
For example, a character on the station has to hack into the planetary comm system below to send a galactic SOS a substantial amount of time after the emergency occurs. It's as if all the people on the planet below are too ignorant to use their own comm system to send out the message. The repeated illogical decisions made by the characters that should know better make this book a frustrating "read".
I understand that Star Wars books aren't all meant to be Hugo Award wining quality, but this one fails to be entertaining and frustrates listeners and is much worse that the author's previous book in the High Republic series.
I only listened to the end to obtain the knowledge of all the in world events to understand what subsequent books in the series will build upon.

Historia
After devastating losses at the hands of the First Order, General Leia Organa has dispatched her agents across the galaxy in search of allies, sanctuary, and firepower - and her top spy, Vi Moradi, may have just found all three, on a secluded world at the galaxy’s edge. A planet of lush forests, precarious mountains, and towering, petrified trees, Batuu is on the furthest possible frontier of the galactic map, the last settled world before the mysterious expanse of Wild Space.

Plot Nonsensical, Voice Acting Great, Thumbs Down
Revisado: 12-15-20
This book has a great premise and an interesting new protagonist in Vi. The problem is that the story elements just don't make sense logically. I'm constantly thinking to myself, "a character like that would never act/react that way".
The whole premise of why Vi ends up in the Batuu and why she has to make do with no off world support is laughable.
Plus the whole "Indiana Jones" bit is completely nonsensical in both its intact existence on present day Batuu and the execution of the mini adventure.
I enjoyed Dawson's previous Star Wars book, Phasma, so thought I'd enjoy this book as well. I was wrong.
It's not worth the time it takes to listen to the book.
Highly NOT Recommended.
