SPOILERS. I like Joshua Hood’s writing and the action is nonstop. The character of Jake Slade was a good one and I liked him and was totally on his side. I also liked Keller so I’m glad he survived. Here are s few things that would have made it better to me. First, I thought firefighting would be more of factor in the story, and I was a bit disappointed that it came down to more of a cat and mouse game in the forest, even though that was well done. I was expecting Slade to have to get out of some incredible fire scenario, but it didn’t happen. Second, I found the who did what to whom at the end confusing, maybe because I was listening to it rather than reading it where I could have stopped and reread a passage or spent time digesting it. I was not surprised by Buck, so for me that could have been revealed a bit earlier an we could have watched him as he tried to manipulate things to keep his involvement hidden and get the result he wanted. And I guess lastly I would say Slade had a lot of bad luck, He’d try something, but there was always a “but” coming. Still I will say I enjoyed the book and had a hard time putting it down. Despite my criticisms, I would recommend the read for anyone who likes action novels. Looks like a lot of research went into the book and the fire scenes in the beginning were thrilling. The narrator does a good job, with readily distinguishable voices, consistent pacing and no over the top drama. All in all, good and enjoyable story, and Joshua Hood stays on my buy list.

Ars Baylock is an absolutely brilliant mind, but one who is lost. He is cynical, borderline suicidal and isolated from society. He has turned to drugs as a solace, and only finds comfort in the blue nowhere of the internet. He is also an impossibly gifted hacker, but now he’s hit the radar of the FBI, and has been taken into custody under the new Patriot two act, and they are determined to break him and permanently incarcerate him as a danger to National security. The only problem is they have no evidence. They must get him to incriminate himself in about a week’s time to meet the deadline of the next meeting of the Cyber Security sub committee of the Senate. Dave Anders is his case manager. An idealistic man, Anders finds himself torn between what he feels is right, and what he’s expected to do. Reluctantly, these two young men are forming a friendship, when everything tells them they should be enemies. How this develops, how Anders begins to draw Ars out and the secrets of Ars mind and his past slowly emerge to a final explosive conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to more. Christopher Andrews gives a masterful performance, switching voices effortlessly between characters and bringing the story to life with perfect pacing. Highly recommended.

I don’t write many full reviews but after reading some negative ones on this book I felt I had to write something. I did not find it too fantastic, boring in places or contrived, as others have said. In fact, I think it followed quite logically from the previous four. There are lots of open threads which means another is probably forthcoming, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. We all waited a long time for this one, so I hope the next will not take so long, but don’t let the negative reviews stop you. If you love KDT, then get this book and enjoy the ride. Nick Podehl is awesome as he always is,

I loved this book. I was completely drawn in by the characters, and their story touched my heart. I was up half the night because I just could not wait until morning. I am quite sure that this is one that I will listen to again. I did not know Lily Morton before reading this, but I will be looking for more of her titles now.

I loved this book. I was what I’ve so been looking for. there was so much about Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s inner thoughts, and even though there is lots of action and some other very interesting characters, this is the thing that makes this book great. Most other books focus on the action but this book focuses on the relationship between these tow and who they really are and how their relationship is developing. You learn much about who they are and what drives them, and how it portends what happens next. I so wish this author could write a book about Vadar in his early days after mustafar, because this is so what I have been craving. Highly recommended for those who love Anakin and Obi-Wan and are struck by the tragedy of what will come between them. In my in’s a tour de force. More please!!!!

SPOILERS: I did enjoy this book and the performance was great. However there are some things I would have changed. First of all I hated the rebels. The main character Cham starts out by telling us he is not a terrorist, he’s a freedom fighter. However this is clearly not true. He and his group kill with no regard for life, and they kill innocents. When Cham meets with the traitor Belcore, he treats him with disdain, and talks to him like some mafia don. Rather than seek cooperation, he threatens and throughout the story, he doesn’t care whatsoever for this person who has been an ally to him for a long time. Granted Belcore’s motives are far different that Cham’s, but this doesn’t mean his life should be totally disregarded. It is not surprising for allies to have different motives in a war/rebellion situation, but that doesn’t mean you denigrate and even plan to use them and throw them away. I was only sorry that Belcore didn’t turn on him sooner. And Cham is pretty self righteous. I did not like him one bit. And Isval, the female lead rebel is even worse. She fires, for example on a group of medics with no regard, in her frantic determination to kill Vadar. In fact, with all her hatred, she would have been an excellent candidate for turning to the dark side if she had any talent with the force, which she doesn’t. I could not wait for Vadar to kill her. She constantly disregards the safety of her own team members in her fury to get at Vadar for killing one particular member of her team. But in the end, she kills more of her own people than Vadar does.

The action scenes with Vadar and the Emperor are lots of fun, but like many people have commented, there was far too much in the book about the rebels and not enough on these two. Given the title of the book I would have expected that to be reversed. Vadar many times just robotically answers “Yes, my master” but I would have liked a lot more about what he was thinking. At one point when he is landing a shuttle that has lost all power, and is entering the atmosphere at a suicidal rate, his thoughts stray to his past, but there are only about two sentences. It says he thinks a name that he doesn’t think of often, Padme. But it doesn’t say what he thinks about her. Surely his thoughts were more than just her name. I would like to see the inner turmoil he goes through, and how he brings himself back to the dark side, Control/Loss of control/Control. I think this might have been difficult to write, but so worth it. Fans hunger for more about Vadar, esp those who loved Anakin. When he thought of Padme, what happened to what he was doing. Did he turn too slowly or what? We are only told that the Emperor thinks it wasn’t his best effort and that he was distracted. At the end, Vadar is asked to kill a village of innocents. He previously saved one young girls life from the village with the excuse that she might be useful. What was he really thinking then? The destruction of the village is completely left out. He goes into a cave where the people are hiding and then comes back out. It is one sentence. What was he thinking then. Was he feeling powerful or did it bother him, or both? Did it make him think of the younglings? Was he feeling any regret for them and his actions back then, or for these villagers? So much opportunity for a better look at Anakin as Vadar that was not taken advantage of. So I would say on the whole, its a good listen. If you think you’re going to get a deep dive into Vadar (or the Emperor) think again. The audio performance is top notch.

I truly loved this story, There were so many sweet moments and many laughs, a few tears too. Highly recommended. The narration was really outstanding, and I am particular about the performance so when I say that I really mean it. John Solo brought the story to life. It was really excellent. All around a definite thumbs up.

To avoid spoilers let me just say that I had expected better from the MC than what happened. As brave and good as he was in the first two books, he was more cowardly and less resourceful in this final book of the series. In the end he did not really prevail but rather had some fortuitous luck in the deeds of others. And seems content to live as a sort of shadow of his former self for the rest of his life. One might think him old and retired as the book ends. I got one was left unsatisfied.

What a great action adventure. You have to live these characters and their many scrapes with danger. John Banks does an outstanding job of bringing this story to life. On to the next book in this series!!!
