Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Slow til the End
Revisado: 10-17-18
The worst part about this book was the constant change of the voices characters sometimes within the current dialogue. I cant understand why they would do this, but it made for a terrible listening experience.
As far as the story, it was my first time reading DUNE, it was very slow. Obviously he had to take his time building the foundation of this fictional world and in the end it is worth it. I am very intrigued to see where this is going now that the characters have been built up so well. It seems at the end of this book Herbert was just getting to the actual stories he wanted to write, but had to write this first to get there. We will see!

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Not What I Was Expecting
Revisado: 10-04-18
I had just finished Dracula as I move through the classic genre of Horror and moved into Frankenstein. Ouch, it was painful! Dracula had an art and story line that was blissful, unique and fun. This was a heavy mire of exhaustive linguistic gymnastics. I'm proud of Mary for being so smart, but ugh. The story is ok, in the end I feel like its just Dr. Frankenstein's fault for using human ingenuity to create and abandon his creation only to attempt to thwart the wrath to come.

This is a very basic study of the Pentateuch. If you are well versed and studied in this area this will not add much to your understanding. If you know little to nothing about the Pentateuch this is where you should begin.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

I can't believe I waited half of my life to read Dracula I was so surprised in it's ingenious, wittiness and level of cleverness. The all star cast made this read unbelievably enjoyable! So impressed!

this was a great over view for Catholicism. the best part as usual with these types of texts was the review and insight of the Eucharist, that made it all worth it.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

the stories were interesting from a Christian perspective. Oden is Jesus and the father in one and Loki is Lucifer. it's like hearing the full story of the heavenly court and what it may or may not have been like when Lucifer hung around as the adversary much like Lokis character. i wasn't expecting so much correlation between the two stories but the over arching themes are definitely there.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

the idea that love is everything resonates in this work but sadly there isn't much else said. scientifically I think there is no other answer than what he says happened but with all ndes the most valuable insight is seeing a sibling one never knew and then finding that validated. i wish he had of elaborated more on what knowledge he gained from this but as he says he can't put it into words.

What an excellent tale of dystopia the likes of which I hope to never see. A great story that is paired so well with 1984. They could be two characters from the same era, but in different cities experiencing just a tad difference of authoritarian will. Really enjoyed this.
