Historia
Nora Kelly, a young curator at the Santa Fe Institute of Archaeology, is approached by historian Clive Benton with a once-in-a-lifetime proposal: to lead a team in search of the so-called "Lost Camp" of the tragic Donner Party. Benton tells Kelly he has stumbled upon an amazing find: the long-sought diary of one of the victims, which has an enigmatic description of the Lost Camp. Nora agrees to lead an expedition to locate and excavate it-to reveal its long-buried secrets. Once in the mountains, they learn that discovering the camp is only the first step in a mounting journey of fear.

Not as bad as other reviewers say...
Revisado: 02-25-22
I hesitated on buying this book, mostly because of what other reviewers had said. I'm so glad I took a chance on it. Those other reviewers are correct. This is NOT a Pendergast novel. It's a Nora Kelly and Corrie Swanson book! We first met Nora Kelly in "Thunderhead" (my most-frequently read Preston-Child novel), and this book is totally on our first Nora Kelly experience. It Is also a great continuation to "White Fire" which is the last time we met Corey Swanson in the Pendergast series. In my opinion, very well written.
As mentioned by the other reviewers, I do have a couple of issues with the narrator. Cynthia seemed a little flat on the first couple of chapters, but once she got warmed up, I really enjoyed her through most of book. There are a couple of badly pronounced words, and most egregiously, there is one character in the story with a very distinctive accent, which Cynthia has no business trying to do. If the character in question was in more of the book, this would be a major problem, but for me it didn't ruin the whole book.
Overall, for me, an enjoyable listen to a very warrant story.

great book; a minor production issue was annoying
Revisado: 08-02-18
I have yet to dislike anything I've read by Michael Crichton, and this book was no exception. interesting basic premise, well written. Also the voice Talent did a really decent job on it. Not somebody that I was familiar with, but I was pleasantly surprised. my only complaint was that after certain sections of the book, there was a very long period of Silence, 15 to 20 seconds long. Kind of broke up the flow of the story.

Must we endure Baskous yet again?
Revisado: 02-09-16
Although not many favorite Rollins it IS certainly more than passable. However, Christian Baskous once again makes it nearly impossible to enjoy the story.

great story, but poorly read.
Revisado: 09-10-15
for those that have listened to the entire Sigma series, this weed is rather disappointing. Baskous, though a capable reader, is not a good fit here. I would have preferred to hear Peter J Fernandez read this one. having listened to the entire series I have grown accustomed to his pronunciations of names, pacing, and his voicings for the different characters.

Great story, horrible narrator.
Revisado: 04-30-15
Not sure why they continue to hire Christian Baskus for this series. Intriguing story, classic James Rollins. Painful to listen to, however. Inconsistent accents and boy things, names pronounced differently than in previous Rollins audio books. Would much prefer to hear this read by Peter J Fernandez, who has well established specific voices and accents for each character in the series.

good story (although a little short), poorly read
Revisado: 03-11-15
I'm somewhat of a Preston Child fan, and enjoyed many of the same things that I enjoy about his other books in this story: good characters, good story, nods to interesting historical facts, etc. I'm also a fan of audiobooks, and all of my Preston Child reads have actually been audio.
The complaints I have about this story and the reading of it are things that I've never had to complain about with other Preston child books.
First and foremost was the narrator. Child trends to choose exceptional narrators for his books, but this one reminds me a bit of listening to a high school kid read. I could go for stretches without any problems, but everytime the words "a" or "an" came up, it was hesitant and extremely hard in the diction, and occasional pauses elsewhere that made this reading feel kind of odd.
My other concern was that the book field like it was a single book that has been divided into three to make a trilogy. The pacing seems good until I got to the end which was very abrupt. I'm hoping the child is not resort to this in the future, as his books are usually well developed and nicely paced.
Still, all in all, an okay read. Not enough to turn me off of future Child books; in fact now that I've started it I must finish the trilogy in spite of my issues with listening to that narrator.
