Historia
In 1851, Olive Oatman was a 13-year-old pioneer traveling west toward Zion, with her Mormon family. Within a decade, she was a white Indian with a chin tattoo, caught between cultures. The Blue Tattoo tells the harrowing story of this forgotten heroine of frontier America. Orphaned when her family was brutally killed by Yavapai Indians, Oatman lived as a slave to her captors for a year before being traded to the Mohave, who tattooed her face and raised her as their own.

A little gem.
Revisado: 01-05-25
I particularly appreciate the research and analysis of how the heroine's story was presented to the public at the time, versus what the true facts must have been. Immensely interesting and insightful; much more than a novel. A little gem.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read; both the detail that brings it all to life and the rather complex unexpected unexpected plot.

A seaman's read
Revisado: 01-04-23
Beautiful writing and narration. Very good basis to the story. My lack of seamanship and knowledge of tidal behaviour and canals made it an interesting, though also somewhat confusing read. Very unexpected twists and turns. Perfect for yachting lovers.

Intimacy explained
Revisado: 02-26-22
Very relevant to Mediterranean culture. A useful insight for older generations with fixed perceptions about marriage/romance/fidelity/etc. Bucai never ceases to impress me, no matter how many of his books I have read. He has an open and also sincere and human view of life, with a wealth of knowledge and touching stories. I particularly appreciate his realism.

Definitely worth reading... for us all.
Revisado: 01-21-22
Happy to have read it. Definitely adds knowledge and understanding of how politics link with daily life. Good insight to how political decisions and social set-up impact under-priviledged social groups, in ways you wouldn't consider if not directly affected. Subtly raises social awareness on vital fundamental issues Interesting connections within international politics. I felt it could be more compact and shorter, yet I will definitely read more books by this author.

I enjoyed it from beginning to end; appreciating how harsh realities of the time are introduced. It is a very well written and insightful journey into what the Australian exiles and natives faced with the British.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Not one of Kim Michele's best works
Revisado: 03-17-21
Though I love other books by this author, and both her writing style and the narration are good, I felt it was long drawn, a little repetitive and insufficient content is given throughout. The plot is not bad, but (for me) it looses its excitement by the unnecessarily long stretches of words.

Too much praise, little substance
Revisado: 11-21-20
Other than an introduction into QT, which could have easily been presented in a 2-page article, there is very little substance. 80% = praising QT, less than 20% = insight into QT.
I would recommend you skip this book altogether and seek out a QT workbook.

- De Pepita Caviar en 10-01-19
title could not have been more accurate
Revisado: 11-20-20
Worth reading, even if you have no children - like myself, because you develop an understanding of the adults in your life, the effects of the childhood parenting they received, and helping you relate to them today.
Also, the author connects to one straight away, as she's very down to earth and realistic about nobody being perfect, including herself... and yet, will always have an encouraging solution to propose.
Narrator is good, except when she puts on silly voice of someone else talking...
