Historia
Nestled on a lonely stretch along the Pacific coast, quaint roadside outpost Harmony Corner offers everything a weary traveler needs - a cozy diner, a handy service station, a cluster of motel rooms...and the Harmony family homestead presiding over it all. Well...
Revisado: 04-15-23
I was disappointed in this Interlude, and I adore the author. Frequently, the story stutters and stalls from unfunny attempts at humor. It was also overly wordy at times, as if he were trying to meet a word count deadline. I'm sure I'm wrong, but that really effected my enjoyment of the novella.

Historia
Now a student at Wurthaven, Will is confronted with the truth of the present. The powerful magic embodied by wizards like his grandfather is but a distant memory. Though the practice of the current day is timid and uninspired, Will needs the knowledge that’s preserved and managed by the college. At every turn he finds that sorcery is supreme, while wizards are trained merely to assist and support those who hold the real power - a power based on an evil so deep that few who are living know the truth of its foundation.

CHANGING REVIEW...
Revisado: 12-27-22
I've left a detailed review of book 1 already. Considering said prior review, I wasn't going to read past book 2. I am, however, reconsidering. The second half of this book improved quite a bit; I therefore I've purchased and downloaded book 3. This is the first series in decades for which I've made that concession. I usually have to have no reservations to go all-in for a series. So I'm back to "we'll see". I did enjoy this book better than #1, so...
FORWARD MARCH!

Historia
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Excellent narrator!
Revisado: 12-18-22
I've a new favorite male narrator in Tim Gerard Reynolds. He brings the story to life! I'm a bit disappointed in the story itself. The action often feels a bit underdeveloped. (Deus ex machina much?) That being said, I've already purchased and downloaded book 2. I'm willing to give the author the benefit of the doubt for a while, at least.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Historia
Tory Bodeen grew up in a run-down house where her father ruled with an iron fist and a leather belt - and where her dreams and talents had no room to flourish. Her one escape was her neighbor Hope, who lived in the big house just a short skip away, and whose friendship allowed Tory to be something she wasn’t allowed to be at home: a child. Then Hope was brutally murdered, and everything fell apart.

Good book but...
Revisado: 10-09-22
very poor narrator. Narrator couldn't act, didn't have separate voices for the characters (which caused confusing dialog), was wooden and metronomic with disdain for punctuation.

This Was A Great Ride!
Revisado: 09-18-22
Julia Whelan did a MASTERFUL job both writing this novel and narrating its pages. Ms. Whelan has been my favorite narrator for a long time, and I must admit that it was that historical preference which led me to purchase this book.
This story was riveting, heart-wrenching, funny, filled with very well-developed characters, and SO much more. I'm not really a fan of romance novels myself, but this was stellar! I will definitely be reading future novels by Ms. Whelan (even if they ARE the dreaded romance). AUTHOR! AUTHOR!

Excellent Series!
Revisado: 07-07-22
As much as I have loved this series over the years, I do believe I now have a new favorite in this most recent book. Perhaps it is because the author has referenced events in previous books wherein she built these strong characters and this tale brought all that effort together in one very enjoyable tale.
Huzzah, Mercedes Lackey! Huzzah!

Historia
While Sherlock is still officially dead, John and Mary Watson and Nan Killian and Sarah Lyon-White are taking up some of his caseload - and some for Lord Alderscroft, the Wizard of London. Lord Alderscroft asks them to go to Dartmoor to track down a rumor of evil magic brewing there. Not more than four hours later, a poor cottager, also from Dartmoor, arrives seeking their help. His wife, in a fit of rage over the children spilling and spoiling their only food for dinner that night, sent them out on the moors to forage for something to eat. This time they did not come back.

I love Mercedes Lackey!
Revisado: 05-15-22
This was a great overall story, but the reading using the local dialect and accents was mostly too unintelligible. I have no idea if the hard copy book was an easier read. The narrator is usually very good (and the rest of the book was very well done indeed), so I have to say she did her best in trying to vocalize a difficult, poorly written dialect.
