Historia
With her remarkable insight into the human condition and silences that contain multitudes, Elizabeth Strout returns to the town of Crosby, Maine, and to her beloved cast of characters—Lucy Barton, Olive Kitteridge, Bob Burgess, and more—as they deal with a shocking crime in their midst, fall in love and yet choose to be apart, and grapple with the question, as Lucy Barton puts it, “What does anyone’s life mean?”

Different than anything I’ve ever listened to
Revisado: 02-07-25
Doesn’t have a traditional “storyline” - or a “point” to it. It just is. It’s just about older people telling stories. It moved slowly, and I almost quit several times.
The reason it’s boring though is also the reason it’s kind of beautiful by the end. It’s just people. Living life. Love, sadness, anger, fear, happiness, embarrassment, but most of all contentedness.
Unlike anything I’ve ever read. I don’t think I’ll read anything from this series again, but at the same time, I’m glad I made it through and feel like I am better in some way for having read it.

Historia
A poet's life is turned inside out by a sudden, wrenching pain. The pain brings him to his knees, and eventually to the ICU. Confined to bed, plunged into the dysfunctional American healthcare system, he struggles to understand what is happening to his body, as someone who has lived for many years in his mind. This is a searching, sweeping novel set at the furthest edges of human experience, where the forces that give life value—art, memory, poetry, music, care—are thrown into sharp relief.

This is a perfect book to listen to. The description didn’t seem interesting but it really was. It was so descriptive and passionate. It was enthralling. Highly recommend.

Definitely another Christmas rom-com
Revisado: 12-26-24
It was incredibly basic and followed the storyline of any other hallmark Christmas movie you ever seen.

Historia
When the misanthropic Dr Miriam Price wakes up dead, her day has only just started to go wrong. With everyone mistakenly thinking she killed herself, she's condemned to half a century in Limbo as a 'Death By Misadventure' - unless she can prove that she was murdered. I always love a book narrated by the author and Max does an amazing job. She is engaging and puts the exact right emphasis where it should go. The book has a unique take on death, life, and everything in between. It’s really funny in a sassy kind of way. I can’t wait to listen to your other books!!

Historia
Two days ago, the Wilson family checked into the imposing, glass-fronted Lodge, surrounded by snow and perched perilously on the edge of a cliff looking out to a gray sea. Not everyone was looking forward to the family get-together. But mother-in-law Angela insisted the winter trip would help heal their rifts....

Unexpected ending

The first 2/3 are very novel and not mystery, which was actually a nice change and interesting. The very last hour changes the whole game.

Disgustingly violent
Revisado: 04-14-24
TRIGGER WARNING. This book goes into more gruesome details about the sexual violence - and just outright violence - than is at all necessary. I listened to the whole thing because I couldn’t let it sit unfinished in my brain, but god. That was 2 weeks ago, and my brain is still f-ed up by it.
There was a plot, but it got to the point in the book where there were more violent descriptions than there was plot. Then it would continue repeating the same terrible details over and over.
I love thrillers and can deal with a lot just fine - this book will stay with me in the worst of ways for a long time.

Just generally solidly good. Nothing amazing over the top, but Dave Grohl seems incredibly genuine. It’s not exactly in chronological order, so it jumps around sometimes randomly a bit

Historia
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.
