Together they must escort Brik, a being from the long-deserted world of Sterona, to his people's distant home. The trek won't be easy, but for the Parkers, nothing ever is.

Eh - Ok, but where are the other 13 books?
Revisado: 01-22-25
Not sure why the recordings stopped in 2020 on book 12 as there are 25 in the series. Based on pricing, maybe people stopped buying them due to the simplistic plot twists employed by the author? No one guarded the frozen scary super boy to whom access was supposed to be super secure, but a 15 y/o girl got in and freed him to screw up the balance of the universe because she thought he was cute and she was feeling left out 🙄? Or, guards being drawn away with a donut so they could steal a ship. Curious what happens to the characters, but can understand people being done with the simplistic and “unrealistic” (I know it’s sci-fi, but that does not mean the characters are all supposed to be ignorant) twists. Kinda was done listening anyway.

Historia
July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the Anomaly. On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII:a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide. Its curve not of nature, but design. Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why. But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space. For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

Don’t do it
Revisado: 08-26-23
Don’t waste your time. Entire story could be summed up in 1 paragraph. I kept waiting for something, and there was nothing.

Historia
Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

Ugh
Revisado: 03-05-19
I’ve got about 10 more hours of this dribble. I have loved this series and devoured all the other books in a weeks or so each. I’m going on 5 or 6 weeks now with this one. New narrator, can’t take the time to learn how to pronounce names, even “taron federation”. No, that’s Terran, ugh. Plot, what plot. This is sim city in book form. Nothing has happened that has kept my interrst. Nothing tying the story together, just world bulding, recessions here and there, I’M PULLING MY HAIR OUT, but I figure I have to get through this mess so I can be up-to-date for the next book. Please, let that one be decent. Fast forward to the return, or something, UGH AGAIN!

Historia
Earth is conquered. The Shongairi have arrived in force, and humanity’s cities lie in radioactive ruins. In mere minutes, over half the human race has died. Master Sergeant Stephen Buchevsky, who thought he was being rotated home from his latest tour in Afghanistan, finds himself instead prowling the back country of the Balkans, dodging alien patrols and trying to organize the scattered survivors without getting killed.

Really?
Revisado: 02-02-16
Would you try another book from David Weber and/or Charles Keating?
I've listened to many of his books including the Honor series, and the Safehold series. He is always a bit heavy on weapons descriptions, and the same goes with this book. I would highly recommend the other two series, in fact the Safehold series is one of my favorite out there, but this one seems like David Weber on a budget. It dragged, the aliens were idiots (think doctor who goofy) and the ending was well, ridiculous, sorry David. The narrator just sounded old and tired.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Cut the length in half (many repetitive battles with same results that did not add to the plot) and come up with an ending that was not just completely dumb.
What three words best describe Charles Keating’s performance?
Old, tired, non imaginative.
Was Out of the Dark worth the listening time?
No
Any additional comments?
If you're a David Weber fan, you can skip this one. If you haven't listen/read his books before, DON'T START WITH THIS ONE. Try Armageddon Reef, or the Honor series. They are/were great!
