Romance and Intrigue
Revisado: 04-14-25
Stephanie Laurens has creative story lines and interesting plot twists. The characters have depth and grow as we come to know them. However, Ms Laurens tends to be overly verbose, particularly when she depicts the myriad love scenes between the two main characters, who are married. Is she trying to remind us that, in spite of the murder mystery which she crafts well, that this is primarily a romance novel?
She also tends to belabor the explanations attributed to each character to the point where it becomes redundant and too much.
However, the series is a fun read. I would recommend the books and simply enjoy the interesting plots.

All’s well that Ends Well
Revisado: 04-01-25
A very enjoyable series by Jane Ashford. Should be read in order as the stories build on each other and many characters recur in the stories.
Ms Rosalyn Landor is a superb narrator. Her facility with accents, both local and foreign, shows throughout the series as does her ability to do excellent male and female voices. She definitely brings all the characters to life and allows one to get to know and like or dislike them as the story dictates. The main characters are charmingly portrayed and the situations they find themselves in are novel and interesting. I couldn’t stop reading until I had finished the five books.

Too many echoes of Outlander

The story was sweet. The characters enjoyable but anticipated. However, too many scenes and events recalled Outlander, and thus, disappointing

Historia
Shy, bookish Lady Susannah Haddonfield has no patience with loud, smelly beasts of any species, but must appear to like dogs so as not to offend her sister's only marital prospect. Susannah turns to Will, an acquaintance from her most awkward adolescent years, to teach her how to impersonate a dog fancier. Will has long admired Susannah, though he lacks the means to offer for her, and, yet, as they work together to rescue the purloined pets, it's loyal, dashing Will who steals Susannah's heart.

Overall, a fun and delightful story with varied and great characters. Many of the same tropes here as in previous book, but easily overlooked for the evolution of the story. Enjoyed very much.

A unique and very charming romance novel. And a story with a good and sound moral: kindness matters, truth matters and most of all, love matters.

Great and fun series
Revisado: 01-21-25
The Glass and Steele series is well written and enjoyable. The characters are well rounded and, as we learn more and more about them over the course of the series, we come to care about each of them. The two protagonists, India and Matt, move the story along through a series is events and adventures that put each in peril but are saved by the other’s great love and affection. Magic reigns throughout, both causing and resolving the precarious situations that befall the characters as they move through their world of 1890s England.

When a good love story is made better still by beautiful writing
Revisado: 01-07-25
The Beast Takes a Bride is one of the most beautifully written romances that I have read in a long while. The language is lyrical and moves us along the story with charm and fluidity. It becomes one with the evolution of the storyline and enhances the plot development.
Not only is the story entrancing and compelling but the characters that represent the protagonists fit perfectly together in the proverbial ying and yang of a relationship. One roots for them to overcome their differences and to acknowledge that they do belong together. No other option exists! One can only cheer when the only solution becomes the perfect solution.

Historia
Brogan is a very large man with power and skill, but uneducated due to his family's immigrant social standing. He meets our heroine by chance, a member of the mighty de Nevilles, the most powerful ruling family in England. The Lady Avalyn du Brant's uncle is the all-powerful Richard Neville, "The Kingmaker". Although Brogan knows she is out of his league, he is nonetheless taken by her. Avalyn, too, is intrigued by the big soldier with the heavy accent and menacing presence.

The perfection of the story
Revisado: 11-12-24
In an ideal world, the ending which keeps Avalyn and Brogan together would be the better one. However, realistically, given the era in which the story takes place, with its social strictures and the wealthy world in which Avalyn was brought up, I doubt that long term, the marriage would have flourished. The first ending better suits the story. Avalyn has Brogan’s son who will be elevated beyond his father’s status and through him she can remember and love Brogan. She also has in William a man who truly cares and loves her, loves her son by Brogan and who can help her maintain her social status and in so doing, elevate Ty. It’s a win/win for all. Additionally, it is Avalyn who “gives” Brogan his daughter, Lake. Brogan’s saving grace.

Love is a very strong magic
Revisado: 09-21-24
This novel is the perfect prequel to the Immortal Guardian series. We are introduced to two of the oldest Immortals who predominate in the subsequent series that takes place in modern times.
This story sets the stage for the pairing of different species which results in very happy outcomes.
