Historia
Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race”, a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of Black women and men - bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a Black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son.

Literally Genius
Revisado: 08-25-24
Written like poetry to the ears. It is profound, beautiful, and heart wrenching. It is unfortunate that the whites who need to hear this will not .
They dwell in their whiteness. Listen to the pain and fear of black humans and know that American righteousness does not want the ugly truth to be known.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

I had listed to Mad Honey 🍯 until 3:00 &4:00 in the morning. I have companion and wisdom for Lilly and other souls that were born in a body not identifying with who they are. Asher falls in love with who Lilly is. The bees are woven into the story reflecting the characters lives. I learned a great deal about bees, and the complexities of being transgender in a society that defines people as either male or female.

When he got to the front of the line, he urged his fellow officers to hold it against the growing crowd of insurrectionists—until he found himself pulled into the mob, tased until he had a heart attack, and viciously beaten with a Blue Lives Matter flag as shouts to kill him rang out. Now, Fanone is ready to tell the full story of that infamous day, along with exploring our country’s most critical issues as someone who has had firsthand experience with many of them.

Gross Out Thriller
Revisado: 10-23-23
This is one of King's best. I've have read and now listed to his novels and short stories since the late 70s. I attended middle school. In High School I became a Stephen King fan with Night Shift. A girl I knew did a speech on The Body. I couldn't get enough. Back then, his novels didn't come out fast enough. Decades later, King has written more books that may take a lifetime to read and listen to.
King has written some really gross out subjects in some novels. Holly is the grossest with descriptions of the cunning killers dining on human body parts. It is a detective story and thriller with the horror of humans at that worst selves. I feared for Holly and Barbara. Mostly Holly being on her own. The climax of the novel is believable as the listener \reader is drawn in.

Sci-fi
Revisado: 10-20-23
Brady is through out the story with his obsession with suicide. Spoiler alert: his conscience takes over the bodies of other characters. He is powerfully manipulative getting his other targets to do and say what he wants. The climax has many twists and turns with Hodges and Holly against Brady.

Historia
A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

Fast paced with Twists and Turns
Revisado: 10-15-23
I gave the story and the overall rating five stars. King always does fantastic character development. There is Morris an insane psychopath that is smart clever and sometimes sad. I only felt sorry for him when he's raped in jail. He becomes based with Jack the main character in the runner series. It reminds me of Misery in that Mortis does not like what the writer does in the second and third novel. There are the writers mule notebooks and money. The Dad of Peter and Tina survives Mr. Mercedes driving the stolen Mercedes into the people waiting in line at the job fair. There are connections in Finders Keepers to the first book in the series. Jerome, Barbara, Hopkins, and Holly come in later in the story. Will Patterson is a good narrator; however I think a woman should narrate the voices of the females. I couldn't stop listening. I swore at Peter. I know he's a 17 year old kid. Spoiler alert: I thought his decisions and actions would get his sister and family killed. I had been eating an apple with peanut butter when listening with King writing in some gross parts. I definitely lost my appetite.

Historia
In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Masterful
Revisado: 10-13-23
Will Patton is perfect for the ah version of Stephen King's Mr Mercedes. I listen many nights when I should have been sleeping. King created a real evil psychopath in Mr Mercedes, Bradly. King creates characters that are complex and human with flaws. He's a great story teller. The Stand is still my favorite. I grew up in time when high school kids read and talked about Stephen King novels and listened to vinyl.

Horrifying and Gripping
Revisado: 10-05-23
The story is horrific; and yet I couldn't stop listening. I needed to find out what happened with Lilia's ghost and Gail. The story brings the listener into the mind of a psychopath. The characters are well developed. I wanted so desperately for Lilia's killer to be caught before he kidnapped, tortured, and killed another child. The writer must have researched psychopaths and snakes. It is diabolical descriptive . My stomach fitted with fear for the children.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

The Veil between the unknown
Revisado: 10-02-23
Who's to say what reality is and isn't for Teddy. White men believe in possession and demons, heaven and hell. People believe in Big Foot and other phenomenon. It is creepy and gripping. I couldn't stop listening. The story telling is raw and ethnic.

Revisado: 09-30-23
The story is bizarre but captivating. I spent many nights listening too late in the night. I started thinking it would end badly when Guy found Nina in Alfred's office. The ending was surprising. I would hope for a second book to continue where this book left off.
