Hilarious, fascinating, and a roller coaster of dizzying, historical what-ifs, Napoleon's Hemorrhoids is a potpourri for serious historians and casual history buffs. In one of Phil Mason's many revelations, you'll learn that Communist jets were two minutes away from opening fire on American planes during the Cuban missile crisis, when they had to turn back as they were running out of fuel. You'll discover that before the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's painful hemorrhoids prevented him from mounting his horse to survey the battlefield.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

This is a fun book! Be warned Zahn eulogy included
Revisado: 08-20-22
I know Thrawn has been separated from his glorious early entry into StarWars Lore. The way Mr. Zahn rip, wove his narratives brought to life arguably one of my favorite characters. While not “Spock” he demonstrated rather the integration healthily of emotion, experience, and logic…the melding of Spock, Bones, and Kirk…for lack of better counter balance. He will be missed, as he was the author of the books that reawakened the spark of Star Wars for the generation that grew up with and feared was done in the early 90’s. P.S. why does audokorrect do starwats? The universe has many mysteries. The book was amazing and brought breadth of character to protagonists at various stages of their journey together which is quite interesting and again speaks to the loss off fantasy that Zahn’s passing represents. Thank you Penguin. One more reason to resent 2020, but remember an amazingly imaginative author!

Historia
In 1945, after his capture at the end of the Second World War, Hermann Göring arrived at an American-run detention center in war-torn Luxembourg, accompanied by 16 suitcases and a red hatbox. The suitcases contained all manner of paraphernalia: medals, gems, two cigar cutters, silk underwear, a hot water bottle, and the equivalent of $100,000,000 in cash. Hidden in a coffee can, a set of brass vials housed glass capsules containing a clear liquid and a white precipitate: potassium cyanide. Joining Göring in the detention center were the elite of the captured Nazi regime....

We all can be monsters…and need to see others as human beings
Revisado: 08-15-22
As a provider of psychiatric care, this book was a firm reminder that our careers mean so much less than helping our patients than our own careers. While Dr. Kelly failed in several ways, he was outwitted by Goering, he left early from Nuremberg, and frankly got too involved that he hurt his family in ways that I cannot even imagine. There is no explanation for Nazism than Nationalism melded to modernism/materialism. If we are just space dust…then the German argument will be made again…and those who deny this will have to step up and be brave…a history book that encourages the rest of us to know what happened and protect future generations

I met him on his book tour
Revisado: 06-17-22
When my group of thespian friends exclaimed we were to go to a fundraiser for their beloved Capital Theater in Aberdeen SD I was on board. My friend being one of the directors there it would worth three hours and hotel to see my wife’s friends.
When I heard it was the Dread Pirate Robert’s, we bought a vip table.
He recounts on stage some of the stories in the book, he shares photos that could not be in the book…then he sat down and in this theater in nowhere South Dakota watched the entire film with us. After all was done…we then got a chance to meet him and have a photograph.
My friends convinced him to come for the fundraiser…my friends made the memories.
When I read/listen to this book…I hear his experiences and memories…I recall watching repeatedly the film…and the one night the Ladies of the Lake spent an evening with the Man in Black

Join Westley the plucky farm boy, Buttercup the beautiful young maiden, Inigo Montoya the driven, embittered swordsman, and many other strange and unusual characters in this swashbuckling tale of good-natured silliness. It is read by Rob Reiner, who directed the motion picture based on this classic tale.

Come on people it is The Princess Bride!
Revisado: 06-02-22
This is one of the most epic stories of my childhood…the movie…the book in the original Florineese (JK) and the very well executed movie that almost did not get made. I appreciate the additional details not in the movie including the zoo of death. The presentation of this book with Reiner reading shows his affection as well. When I had the opportunity to hug the Dread Pirate himself in South Dakota of all places brought it all home for me!
If you enjoy this book also on Audible “As You Wish,” a fun recall of the shooting of the film by Cary Elwes.

Revisado: 05-27-22
The prescience of Jack (C.S.) Lewis to see the coming post modern world is amazing. He touched on it in Men Without Chests but addressed beautifully in this book specifically, but in all of his Space Trilogy as well. He is a loquacious writer...and grasps...better than I...the importance of words. He has always had a gift of melding myth and reality.

This guy knows his stuff
Revisado: 05-16-22
The author/lecturer uses very good logic along with understanding of Bible, Christianity, philosophy, and what sounds like a breadth of reading the classics. Few in America have the depth and breadth of classical training...still trying to figure what a Trachtuse is as I am uncertain of spelling. If I had the time and money I know my wife and I would enjoy his International Apologetics course in Strassburg France.
