Would you listen to This Side of Heaven again? Why?

No, but I am not a person who rereads books or watches movies over and over unless they really strike a chord in me. This book just missed the mark for me.

What other book might you compare This Side of Heaven to and why?

Most any of Karen Kingsbury's books.

Any additional comments?

I am drawn to books written by Christian writers because they have the ability to entertain with their books without having to resort to foul language or lurid sex. Karen Kingsbury's books can be relied upon to fill the bill for me. However, I found myself not missing the book when I was unable to listen to it. My interest was not held as much as other of her books. If you are looking for a good, clean book for light summer reading, this book will meet those expectations.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The part of this book that I found interesting was the history behind the four blood moons and what they meant to the Jewish people. However, beyond that, I found the book redundant to books that are already in print(some by this author) The narration was, however, the biggest drawback. The narrator had no connection to what he was reading. Everything felt rushed, especially the scriptures. I would not recommend this book to others when they might rather skim the book for themselves or check out the video. That might be more enjoyable.

What other book might you compare Four Blood Moons to and why?

Most any reputable commentary on Revelation.

How could the performance have been better?

He could have shown some some passion or compassion about what he was reading.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Only if it was reported to be worthwhile to watch.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book could be a "stand alone" listen. But it would be unfortunate for the listener to miss out on the previous two books of the trilogy. Book one being from the point of view of a southern young woman struggling with the way of life into which she had been born. Book two being told to us from the point of view of two young women of the North who experience first hand the bloody battle to keep this nation one. This third book is interestingly written from the point of view of a child slave who grows into a young woman with conflicting messages as to how she should live her life. One choice is to continuine blindly doing the bidding of her selfish "missy" with whom she has grown up. Or to respond to the wishes of handsome Grady with whom she has fallen in love. The first requires surrendering herself to the selflessness of mindless obedience to the every whim of her owners. The other is to follow her heart into the unknown world of running away with the angry man she has grown to love. This is the story of Anna, or Kitty to her white owners, as she grows into womanhood. It is also the story of Grady and his life's circumstances that mold him into a vengeful, angry young man. Their stories give the listener a chance to see the raw, ugly side of slavery, but also the pull of the light of "Massa Jesus" and it's healing power. To me, this book is the needed completion to giving all sides of the Civil War.

What did you like best about this story?

Seeing a different and believable side to the struggle between the North, the South, slavery and the battle to save the union.

Have you listened to any of Christina Moore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes......the first two books of this trilogy....... Candle In The Darkness and Fire By Night. This book is another of her great and believable performances.

Who was the most memorable character of A Light to My Path and why?

Anna, and her growth from a childhood of blind obedience to a womanhood of an artist, wife, mother, and "free woman".

Any additional comments?

Do make these three books a part of your library. You won't be disappointed!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would and have recommended this book and it's predecessor "A Candle in the Darkness" to my friends. They are both very enjoyable and educational as well. Lynn Austin's research and attention to details about the Civil War makes them "must reads". Christina Moore, as the reader, makes these books come alive with believable and recognizable voice changes for each character. I did find it a bit of a stretch to think Phebe could pull off her masquerade as a male soldier to such an extent. However, it did not keep me from enjoying the book.

What did you like best about this story?

That it adds more flavor to this trilogy by coming from the point of view of the North and it's struggles to keep the country united as one.

Have you listened to any of Christina Moore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes....."A Candle In The Darkness" and together they weave the story of the Civil War in a believable and engrossing fashion.

Any additional comments?

After having listened to these first two books and enjoying them, I am looking forward to listening to book three of this trilogy.

What made the experience of listening to Candle in the Darkness the most enjoyable?

Both the writing style of Lynn Austin and the recording style of Christina Moore blend to make the characters come alive to the listener. I quickly became immersed in Caroline Fletcher's struggle between her heartfelt conviction that slavery is wrong and the traditions and way of life into which she had been born.

If you could take any character from Candle in the Darkness out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would love to sit with Eli and listen to the wisdom he would share about why he so loves and trusts "Massa Jesus".

Any additional comments?

Lynn Austin has put so much research into the writing of this book. You get a real taste of the Old South and it's turbulent end. Christina Moore's ability to create believable accents for both male and female characters allows you to identify with them all.
