Historia
In 1985, Edward Shank famously gunned down the Beacon Hill Butcher, ending the serial killer’s reign of terror over the city of Seattle. But now in his eighties, Edward’s action-packed glory days are long behind him. The decorated former Seattle police chief has given up his high-maintenance Victorian home to his grandson Matt for a quiet life at the nearby Sweetbay Village Retirement Residence, where mac-n-cheese Wednesdays have become the highlight of his week.

Just dumb.
Revisado: 02-28-25
I stuck with this way too long because the other authors’ books were very good. Wish I had gotten my credit back. Good story, but the characters are just too dumb.

What did I miss??
Revisado: 02-17-25
This was an excellent book until the ending. I thought there had to be another book to finish the story, but this is it. Everyone has gone on about how the ending was perfect. Did I miss something?? I even went back and listened to the last few chapters again. What’s so perfect about being stuck in space, without your child, who is back on Earth with the dregs of the aliens who tried to wipe out humans? Seriously, what am I missing here?

Tried to finish. Couldn’t.
Revisado: 11-16-24
Started out good, but then it just got stupid, and then more stupid, and then more stupid! I hung on too long, past the point of returning it because the author has written some very good books. But this one was a waste of credit and time.

Getting old
Revisado: 08-24-24
This series was so good for years, and the basic stories still are, but I’m so tired of the way the author has begun describing so many characters as “stupid, ugly, or fat”. And they’re always characters who disagree with her main character. Makes me wonder about the author.

Tired of the cliffhangers
Revisado: 08-22-24
Although the majority of these books are well written and enjoyable, I’m just so sick of the author ending the books in very wrong places in the story. I love series books and most authors do end in the appropriate spot in the story. This guy just can’t seem to figure it out. By the time the next book comes out I’ve forgotten what was going on in the previous one. I used to go back and listen a bit to refresh my memory, but with the last few I’ve found that I really just don’t care anymore. Probably my last of the series unless I get really bored and can’t find something else.

Horrible sound
Revisado: 08-04-24
Understood very little of what was being said, and too much information trying to be sent “visually “- background noise, drawers opening and closing, etc. I mean, this is an audio recording!
And why try to make everything sound like an old radio show?? Very frustrating. Couldn’t finish, although it did look like it would be an interesting story.

So bad
Revisado: 06-24-24
I enjoyed the last book in this series. Thought it was clever, so I stuck with this one, thinking it would improve. These characters are truly the biggest idiots. Audible can keep my credit- my fault for not returning this early on, but I sure wish I could get the wasted hours back!

Historia
It was easy for Elizabeth. She married the man she loved, bore him two children and made a home for him which was the envy of their friends. It was harder for Ruth. She married Elizabeth’s son and then found that, somehow, she could never quite measure up. Isolation, deceit and betrayal fill the gaps between the two individual women and between their different worlds. In this complex thriller, Philippa Gregory deploys all her insight into what women want and what women fear, as Ruth confronts the shifting borders of her own sanity.

Whining main character
Revisado: 05-21-24
Weak, whining main character. Could not get through more than an hour. She just sits and allows everyone around her to make her life decisions while either complaining about them in her head, or making excuses for them.
So bad.

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Historia
In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

So-so
Revisado: 11-03-23
The story is okay, narrator okay, but if I have to sit through any more excessive, ridiculous analogies I may throw my phone out a window. Why not just write the scene and be done with it? Analogies are a good thing, but not for every-single-activity…..sheesh!
