Historia
In Paris, 1934, Bính has accompanied his employers, Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, to the train station for their departure to America. His own destination is unclear: will he go with "the Steins", stay in France, or return to his native Vietnam? Bính has fled his homeland in disgrace, leaving behind his malevolent charlatan of a father and his self-sacrificing mother. For five years, he has been the live-in cook at the famous apartment at 27 rue de Fleurus.

A Reflection of Life
Revisado: 05-03-24
I truly enjoyed the audio version of this story. The stream of consciousness style of writing can be a bit chalet follow but listening made it easier. I will definitely be carrying this one with me for a while.

Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Thought Provoking Regardless of Political Views
Revisado: 02-20-23
As a tool for introspection and interaction with others this book has a lot to offer. Along the way there are entertaining and relatable examples from her own life and experiences.

Interesting View of WWII
Revisado: 02-03-23
A love story set in Shanghai China leading up to and during the Japanese occupation gives a different backdrop than other stories I have read from this time period. A little predictable but not so much I knew the journey to get there.

My new favorite color is Bertha orange
Revisado: 04-08-22
Brianna Madia uses words like a paintbrush to bring the American Southwest to life. Her painful honesty present in her story telling, she weaves a tale of trauma, tragedy and overcoming. I have ordered a hard copy and will probably order another for my daughter. This should be only the beginning for her…

Historia
War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

Surprisingly Entertaining
Revisado: 01-26-22
This is a work I have avoided because of what I perceived to be a dense read, but I was so wrong. Thadiwe Newton does an excellent job as narrator. The story of itself is engaging. The historical and philosophical narratives throughout the book are helpful and thought provoking. Now I understand why this is such a classic.
