Needs redemption and resolution of core conflict
Revisado: 10-24-24
This book is depressing. it is basically about the cyclical effects of mothers with unresolved hurts from childhood who end up hurting their own daughters without realizing it. This book ends abruptly and basically you have to start the sequel hoping to find some redemption but instead the sequel is really heavy from the first chapters with a child being molested). I have always liked Rivers, but this book just ended with no resolution to the core conflict of the entire book.

Overly Romantized
Revisado: 08-02-24
I like the mystery aspect of this story, but the ”I can't help that I love you" POV of the protagonist is a dangerous foundation to build a ”Christian Romance” novel on . I am all for idealism and happily ever afters, but reducing a strong, Christian female to not being able to think straight in the presence of the despondent loner who needs her to rehabilitate him is a little sickening and the wrong idea of romance. Plus, the ”I can't help but love this sexy, lonely man who isn't a believer" does not reflect Biblical wisdom or Biblical love even though the author tried to make this a Christian romance by calling it redemptive.

Historia
Detective Hercule Poirot is urged out of retirement to solve the murder of Roger Ackroyd, a wealthy widower found stabbed in his study. In the deceptively quiet village of King’s Abbot, potential motives abound - involving blackmail, revenge, legacies, and more - but they are hard to recognize amid so many layers of secrecy and misdirection...or they would be, for anyone but Poirot. Who’s hiding what, and which was the secret that ultimately provoked the crime? You can’t possibly imagine.

Revisado: 07-04-24
Agatha Christie is the queen of crime. Ironically I read many of her books before this one. Glad it is part of the free classics collection since it is her first.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Dumb and unplausible
Revisado: 07-02-24
I like mysteries that are more realistic. This one, especially the ending, is dumb. The characters are all just sex addicts, and the main one, suddenly gets ”clarity” and remember what happened instead of any real crime solving occuring. Skip it.

She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Audiobook probably better than reading
Revisado: 06-29-24
I probably would have given up had I been reading this as a library book instead of listening to a purchased audiobook because the story started really slowly. In fact, I started it, but didn't return to it for a few weeks, However, I am ultimately glad I finished it. The overall concept of the books ”speaking” to her was a bit unnecessary and made for a very slow and odd beginning. However, as the mystery and the multiple POVs of overlapping stories played out, I became interested. The multiple readers held my attention as I listened as I drove or walked.
