Finalmente la saga di Drizzt in italiano! Compimenti al narratore, ha fatto davvero un ottimo lavoro nell'interpretare questo romanzo. Speriamo di avere presto anche quelli di Dragonlance!

Pike’s reading of The Eye of the World is worth your while. She’s a professional and trained in theatre. That much is easily discernible in the way she reads the novel: the pauses, the intonation, the incorporation of the descriptions into the reading.

It Shines On

I read the book while listening to the audiobook at the same time. I believe Mr Scott has done an excellent job with his performance. It's not too much and it's not too little. And this was a tough one, particularly because the movie (which I cordially dislike) has made this book such a perpetual fav. Let's just say that while reading and listening, if I had to put the iPad down in order to go to the bathroom, I had to have all the lights on and check, briefly mind you, the tub. Well done, Mr King!

Terribile e affascinante

Storia terribile e affascinante. Mi sono sempre chiesto cosa ci fosse dietro la sparizione di Emanuela Orlandi e la testimonianza di Sabrina Minardi offre uno scenario terribile e affascinante come solo certe storie noir possono esserlo. Ma questa non è narrativa, una ragazza, ormai donna adulta, non torna a casa dal 1983. Spero sempre che prima o poi la verità salti fuori. Molto brava la narratrice.

Good listen

What I’ve admired the most about this book is the ability of the writer to show a young homosexual’s fears and desires. Even though the plot has some dream-like quality (very much needed these days), I can only wish people would listen to this with an open heart. It is not easy to tackle homosexuality and religion, but Sanchez has done it with ease and confidence. The narrator has done a very good job.

What about Anna Bonaiuto’s performance did you like?

Anna Bonaiuto, da veterana del teatro qual è, legge il romanzo con intelligenza e sensibilità, recuperando quel piccolo mondo della bassa borghesia napoletana degli anni Cinquanta senza renderlo una macchietta. Dizione impeccabile, espressioni in dialetto napoletano perfettamente comprensibili, grande capacità di far immergere l'ascoltatore nelle parole, talvolta dure, della Ferrante.

Who was the most memorable character of L'amica geniale and why?

Benché contrariamente a quanto si pensi l'amica geniale del titolo non è Lila bensì la protagonista, Elena, non si può non restare affascinati dall'amica "cattiva" che sembra sempre un passo avanti e in realtà è un passo indietro, forte e allo stesso tempo debole nelle sue scelte assolutamente banali come nel suo restare nel mondo patriarcale tra padre e fratello quando da piccola ha invece osato sfidare il "boss" del rione. Davvero un personaggio memorabile Raffaella Cerullo, detta Lila, uno di quei personaggi che fanno la storia della letteratura.

L'amica geniale è quanto di meglio possa offrire l'Italia letteraria di oggi. Il mistero che avvolge la vera identità della scrittrice non offusca le qualità indiscutibili del romanzo che prende senza difficoltà il suo posto tra le opere letterarie più prestigiose di inizio secolo. La Ferrante ci aveva già abituato a romanzi "forti", ma a questo livello nemmeno lei era ancora arrivata. A questo punto non resta che proseguire la storia con il prossimo audiolibro, felicemente letto sempre da Anna Bonaiuto. Spero anche che il successo di questi romanzi dell tetralogia de L'amica geniale aiutino anche il mercato degli audiolibri in Italia, così tristemente indietro rispetto a quello di altre lingue.

The Magic is Still There

Jim Dale is undoubtedly a great proficient. The reading is quite compelling and the novel comes alive at every chapter. The only actual blemish for me is the way he portrays Madam Pomfrey, the nurse of the school. She's too similar to Professor McGonagall. On the contrary, Sirius is really unique in his performance! A must have for every HP fan!

Jane Forever

This is a passionate and well rounded reading of this Jane Austen's Classic. Scacchi does a good job in evoking its twilight feeling and, at the same time, it's liveliness as in all Austen's works. The Louisa Musgrove's incident is particularly week read, as well as the first coming to Uppercross by Anne (all te chitchat of the family, the connections so masterfully portrayed by Austen and performed with amusement by Scacchi). Overall, a must have for every serious Janeite like me but also a good audiobook introduction to the new reader/listener!

Bittersweet Story, Great Narrator

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character is Callista. She's the nanny/baby sitter most of us would like to have had!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Albie discovers that his father has no idea that he has already gotten him the plane toy the year before, with the same promise to spend quality time together in building it. The kid's reaction and the father's complete inattentiveness struck me as too painfully real.

Any additional comments?

Absolutley... almost! ;-) Kidding, absolutely. Galvin's performance is really great, he seems totally into it, possibly because he has liked the book.
