So much potential
Revisado: 04-26-25
The subject is fascinating, of course. The author has made interesting points throughout the published peace. Overall, however, I wouldn’t say it was worth what it cost me. The sound quality is poor, and the authors voice may not be the best choice for the production.

Character development
Revisado: 01-06-25
Once again, very good! If you have read, listened to, or watched the series, I believe this title will top the list. If this is your first experience it’ll all sound hard to believe that Walt and Henry could navigate their 1964 trek to enlist for the Vietnam War effort. George Guidal delivers believability to we veterans of the series.

Distraction
Revisado: 11-29-24
These Richard Sharp novels are generally outstanding. The story, the historical accuracy, the imagery, etc. In this case, however, I believe I would rather read it myself. This professional voice could be the worst in my experience. I just can’t listen so it’s truly a waste of timemoney.

Historia
An old man's hazy memory and a Polaroid snapshot are all Chee has to go on, but they are enough to send him deep into an underworld of murder and revenge when a shootout erupts between two strangers at the Shiprock Wash-O-Mat. One man dies, and the other drives off but not before showing old Joseph Joe a photograph of the man he is looking for. It's not much of a lead for Sergeant Chee, but it's enough to put him on the killer's trail.

Good old Tony holler man. I’ve read plenty of his books, just recently shifted to audio versions. This title escaped me all those years ago. Glad I finally discovered it. Pure excellence.

Missed the mark
Revisado: 10-04-24
I can’t put my finger on it exactly. Either the voice talent is horrible, the dialogue and perspective is all wrong. The authors interpretation of the American antebellum vernacular is way off, or maybe all three. It’s really hard to listen to because it comes off as in authentic, in accurate, and very unlike the books written by this author. Perhaps it’s difficult to work outside your wheelhouse.

Historia
1468. A young priest, Christopher Fairfax, arrives in a remote Exmoor village to conduct the funeral of his predecessor. The land around is strewn with ancient artifacts - coins, fragments of glass, human bones - which the old parson used to collect. Did his obsession with the past lead to his death? Fairfax becomes determined to discover the truth. Over the course of the next six days, everything he believes - about himself, his faith, and the history of his world - will be tested to destruction.

Great character development. Great story, great imagery of opposing viewpoints and the real threat of power misalignment after a holocaust. Unfortunately, it was a long climb for a short slide of an ending.

Buggered by the reader.
Revisado: 05-18-24
As all the Novels featuring the adventures of Richard Sharpe, the story triumphs. As some of these tales on audio, however, the voice talent ruins the experience. When the reader clips off the final consonant of every other word with whatever that British bluster is supposed to sound like, I cannot catch the word. In addition, Sharpe’s character requires simple pragmatic truth in his commentary, in my opinion. Emotional flourishes seem out of place, and diminished the contrast with the other lesser characters in the story. Ergo buggered.

Historia
As the climate veers toward catastrophe, the innumerable losses cascading through the biosphere make vividly evident the need for a metamorphosis in our relation to the living land. For too long we've inured ourselves to the wild intelligence of our muscled flesh, taking our primary truths from technologies that hold the living world at a distance. This audiobook subverts that distance, drawing listeners ever deeper into their animal senses in order to explore, from within, the elemental kinship between the body and the breathing Earth.

Lameness

Good gourd, what a waste of time and treasure. Authors reading their own work spells doom about 99% of the time. There are some exceptions, of course. Not only was this blather, I couldn’t even fall asleep to it.
