Historia
All contact is lost with the first human colony on Mars during a long and destructive sandstorm. Satellite imagery of the aftermath shows extensive damage to the facility. The 54 colonists who called it home are presumed dead. Three years later, a new mission sets down on the surface to investigate what remains of the derelict site. But it's not long before they realize the colony is not as lifeless as everyone thought. Someone is still alive - hiding out somewhere. Yet, before they can find the elusive colonist, a strange illness starts to affect the crew.

Mechanical story consisting of linked cliches. I was hoping for some good SF along the lines of "Martian." Received immense disappointment.

Author loves his own words too much. Takes way too long getting the story out. A great idea that failed in the execution.

Horrible and egregious errors a few seconds of research could have avoided. there is no "Master Gunnery Sergeant" rank in the USMC. this was the third error I ran across in the first half hour. I kept reading after the first two, giving the writer a chance. 1st error, a soda can will not explode in a fire with enough force to injure a person with flying aluminum. 2nd error, every post mortem exam will include examination of stomach contents. the writer was too lazy to do even basic research.

As power in England shifts precariously between Catholics and Protestants, high principles clash bloodily with friendship, loyalty, and love. When she becomes queen, all Europe turns against England.

Historia
A small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it's only when town pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full extent of the killer's twisted work becomes clear. Sara's ex-husband, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation - a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later.

An ok one from a writer that has done better.
Revisado: 05-22-17
Karin Slaughter can write a good thriller. Her stories are more graphic and violent than almost all others. She keeps the inner voice of her characters to a minimum, unlike most women writers. She fell down in a couple of areas, firearm technical knowledge, and police equipment and training, particularly in weapon retention. A failing that reveals a lazy author. Overall, a good read. I believe she gets better in her subsequent work. "Cop Town" was very very good.

Historia
Grammar! For many of us, the word triggers memories of finger-wagging schoolteachers, and of wrestling with the ambiguous and complicated rules of using formal language. But what is grammar? In fact, it's the integral basis of how we speak and write. As such, a refined awareness of grammar opens a world of possibilities for both your pleasure in the English language and your skill in using it, in both speech and the written word.

A great listen for a word nerd.
Revisado: 04-01-17
You already know grammar. This will teach you the why and how come of it.Occasionally it slows, as she slogs through the picayune minutiae of the obscure foundations of our language. But the professor is a word nerd at heart, and she pulls it out of the swamp, returning to words. Why they exist, how they evolve, how common misuse brings new definition. she does not cover one of my pet peeves, "either". "Either" means one, or the other, but not both. I do not recall her discussing quotation marks, either.

Historia
She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

there was enough story and character development to keep me interested, but I was disappointed in the author's handling of technical points of firearms. it is easy enough to research these matters.
