Historia
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

I read this after the Gifts of Imperfection and Daring Greatly. Wow. Feeling inspired and clearsighted. Brown provides piercing truths that are both grounded in research and reality, and connect straight to the heart. Her work writes out the steps of how to thrive as a human being, how to create the deep connectedness we all crave. She provides the information on our emotional worlds that too many of us never learned as children, truths that seem so elusive without having experienced the proper nurturing early in life. She bravely shared tough personal experiences with the intimate steps of how she worked through them, and challenges others to do the same. I really believe that her work will empower so many to be heard, and to change our culture one story at a time.

In 1932, America faced an economic crisis even more severe than the one it has been experiencing recently. The issue then, as now, was how to address it. When President Franklin Roosevelt came into office, he faced more economic problems than any president since has ever faced, but he came equipped with unique and creative solutions to them.

Historia
This audiobook seeks to provide you with the deficiencies that can occur between a neurotypical child and a parent who has Asperger syndrome or who falls on the autism spectrum. We hope to educate adult children who grew up with an aspie as to why they might be experiencing Complex-PTSD, who may have felt alienated as children, and who are largely confused in their world. This audiobook also seeks to educate those who may mentor or work with an NT child who was born into an aspie family or who has constant exposure to aspies.

good overall principles, could use broader stories
Revisado: 12-02-22
I am neurotypical with an Aspie mom, and it was nice to hear explanations for the frustration and exhaustion from the neurotypical child's side of the relationship. However, I will say that some of the details of Aspie behavior presented in the book seem to be describing one or a few specific people, so it would be nice to hear a collection with the experiences of multiple people to weave a broader picture of aspie+neurotypical dynamics. But considering the length there is a lot of great information here and the author clearly understands the neurotypical child's point of view. Also great narrator.

this is a list of downfalls people encounter in terms of emotional and motivational management with concise, practical, and specific tools to overcome them. I have read 25 self help books in the past 2 years and felt that this clearly articulated what many of them were trying to say. this is one of the better ones I have read, would definitely recommend

straightforward, realistic advice
Revisado: 11-29-21
I read "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" and loved it, and found this book to be a great addition and worthwhile read. While the prequel focuses on the nature and impact of emotionally immature parents, this book gives clear and practical advice on processing the damage that has been done and reclaiming your emotional autonomy. It does not sugarcoat anything but instead allows you to see the opportunities you have to meet your needs and change your circumstances. I felt that using this book to realize my options, rights, and needs was an important step in my healing journey.

The Tao of Fully Feeling teaches us to respond to our painful and potentially disruptive feelings in healthy ways. It illustrates the enriching aspects of the so-called negative emotions and helps us achieve the emotional flexibility whereby sadness easily mellows into solace, anger unfolds into laughter, fear evolves into excitement, jealousy opens up into appreciation, and blame gives way to forgiveness.

great content, not so great narrator
Revisado: 09-05-21
This book was very well written and is full of thought provoking content for processing childhood trauma and deepening your understanding of your own emotions. Unfortunately the narrator did not fit and was distracting to listen to. It made the content more difficult to internalize, but overall I would still recommend this book.

Historia
In today’s political climate, more and more presidential candidates are espousing socialist - or democratic socialist - policies. Once associated with oppression, socialism is now a current topic of conversation with everyday Americans, including policies like taxing the rich and healthcare for all. But what exactly is socialism and why does it spark such an intense debate? Socialism 101 provides an easy-to-understand, unbiased overview to the nearly 300-year-old origins of this mode of government, its complex history, basic constructs, and modern-day interpretations....

A Short Historical Account
Revisado: 07-29-21
This book is a brief overview of the history of socialism. It was unbiased and offered no commentary from the author - which has its pros and cons. It lists the major leaders and examples of socialism, but provides little interpretation or discussion. I feel that I'm now more familiar with the names, places, and events, but would struggle to tell you what socialism is. I found myself repetitively feeling there was not enough context to understand why the listed events happened, why they are important to know about the history of socialism, and what they mean for the theory of socialism. I think if they added a concluding section that compares/contrasts the wildly different examples it would help the reader to understand what is inherent to the theory of socialism, which aspects of the examples were just cultural nuances, and what no longer can be classified as socialist. I wish the book would have just said whether 'socialism' has been completely redefined to fit the opinions of new thinkers, or if these were just different models of socialism.

Historia
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Didn't know I could understand myself this well
Revisado: 07-20-21
I don't have CPTSD, but read this because my cousin has it and I have experienced my own parental trauma. In reading this I found the information incredibly helpful for my own personal journey towards self awareness and self compassion. I didn't ever think I could achieve this level of understanding myself and feel so much clarity that other self help books have not provided. This book walks the reader step by step through the mental processes that result from coping mechanisms and how to correct them. The information is straightforward, specific, and directly applicable. The author basically wrote out a therapy program that covers a variety of coping mechanisms. I'd recommend this to anyone with or without CPTSD because of the leap in emotional intelligence that results from it.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Historia
It's a perverse fact of modern life: There are more starving people in the world than ever before, while there are also more people who are overweight. To find out how we got to this point and what we can do about it, Raj Patel launched a comprehensive investigation into the global food network. It took him from the colossal supermarkets of California to India's wrecked paddy-fields and Africa's bankrupt coffee farms, while along the way he ate genetically engineered soy beans and dodged flying objects in the protestor-packed streets of South Korea.

Incredible. well written and comprehensive
Revisado: 05-06-21
This book completely changed my perspective of modern global food systems. Each point was deeply researched and written into a comprehensive story of how our food systems operate. It was a good mix of statistical analysis and anecdotes of real peoples views and experiences. The conclusion was well written and leaves the reader with a clear picture of the issues with global food trade and a vision of how to change it.
