Storytelling at its best, grounded in scholarship, with a pungent backdrop to the audible version. The author faces death, and the book’s audible version is narrated by the inimitable John Dixon, who was his best ‘mate’. Content is conversational, friendly, at times humorous, and convincing in its scholarship. Yet easy to follow as topics are handled one by one with a flowing logic. Read to the very end!

English accents and Scottish accents all spoken in the most pleasing voice I’ve ever heard on audible. A great classic story perfect for the car or bedtime. Sending to all my grandchildren. Highly recommended!
