Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Wonderful example of resilience and strength
Revisado: 07-26-24
This was a fantastic book with details of the war to make it come alive. The descriptions were difficult to read because it would be terrible for anyone to experience, but it also helps people appreciate what they have. I’m looking forward to watching the movie soon!

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

His perspective of how to handle life’s challenges and being mentally strong is empowering. His ideas apply to everyone, but many are specifically for leaders. His way of doing interviews is phenomenal, and I plan to try it out.

Historia
Mitza Maric has always been a little different from other girls. Most 20-year-olds are wives by now, not studying physics at an elite Zurich university with only male students trying to outdo her clever calculations. But Mitza is smart enough to know that, for her, math is an easier path than marriage. And then fellow student Albert Einstein takes an interest in her, and the world turns sideways. Theirs becomes a partnership of the mind and of the heart, but there might not be room for more than one genius in a marriage.

A great historical fiction book
Revisado: 12-05-21
Keep that in mind- it’s a fictional story about history. Some things are inaccurate or may have been different, it’s just how Ms. Benedict told the story. I would hope that Einstein was actually a better person than portrayed in the book. They both had brilliant minds, and it would have been interesting if she would have made more contributions to science.
I gave four stars for the story and overall because I felt like some of the inaccuracies could have been made accurate in the story.
The narrator was excellent for this book, felt like it was actually each character speaking.

But on a night when red spirit lights stain the sky like blood, Ts'ellbah suffers her first violent seizure and sees a vision in which a revered elder encounters a mythical monster and dies.

Read this book next!!!
Revisado: 11-11-21
I loved reading this book from start to finish. It was exciting, the kind of book that I didn’t want to put down because I had to see what would happen next! It also reminded me all the little things that I should appreciate in life. Made me cry tears of heartache, tears of joy. Most of all, I was glad to see all was fulfilled at the end.

Unusual diagnoses, well portrayed
Revisado: 09-03-21
Dr. Sanders tells many interesting stories about unusual diagnoses, which is why I chose to read this book. As a nurse, I feel I can relate to the frustrations when symptoms are overlooked and the satisfaction in finding out what a person has been dealing with. I can sense her passion with keeping the hands on physical exam, which I also feel is important.

The most popular and beloved American historical novel ever written, Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind is unparalleled in its portrayal of men and women at once larger than life but as real as ourselves. Now best-selling writer Alexandra Ripley brings us back to Tara and reintroduces us to the characters we remember so well: Rhett, Ashley, Mammy, Suellen, Aunt Pittypat, and, of course, Scarlett.
