Historia
When the Elorsin brothers venture onto our estate in search of a mysterious bird, just in time to catch me on the wrong end of my master’s temper, they somehow also acquire me. Acquire, kidnap, rescue - is there a difference? Sure, four of the scariest immortals in existence may actually have saved my life, but blending in as a servant in the Elite training castle that I now call home is almost impossible with these four powerful, dark, and broken men focusing their attention on me - and it’s not always good attention.

The narrator ruined it for me...
Revisado: 02-07-22
I loved the book series so of course, I purchased the audio version. I tend to listen to books I've already read while I'm doing dishes or cleaning so I'm not particularly picky usually...
However, the narrator sounds about 45 years old. The character is supposed to be young like 18-20 (I don't remember exactly.) so yes, that completely ruined the story for me!
The author uses the word "chuckin" instead of another curse word and when reading I thought it was cute. Yet, this narrator managed to pronounce EVERY syllable and it just sounds like a professor reading a boring old college textbook... It doesn't sound like one of my favorite RH series, it sounded monotone and boring.
I did ramp it up to 1.5 speed to help it along, that helped a minuscule amount. Eventually I was so bored I vamped it up to 1.8 essentially I HIGHLY recommend listening to the sample. Maybe it won't bother you quite as much as it did me... Unfortunately? Now when I read the books I'll be envisioning this middle aged narrator rather than the voice of a younger woman... It's just bizarre.

Historia
Remy Guidry doesn’t do relationships. He tried the marriage thing once, back in Louisiana, and learned the hard way that all he really needs in life is a cold beer, some good friends, and the occasional hookup. His job as a bodyguard with McKay-Taggart gives him purpose and lovely perks, like access to Sanctum. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman with stars in her eyes and babies in her future.

Remy left a lot to be desired.
Revisado: 10-11-21
Romance is meant to endear you to the heroine while making you route for hero. I just couldn't route for Remy at all. He lied, took her for granted, and just wasn't a respectable hero.
In this I really liked Lisa... At least initially. I liked that she wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted. She didn't crumble after losing her job. She was strong and did her best to continue to support herself despite her family being wealthy. She also showed bravery asking Remy to scene with her... He shot her down pretty brutally but Lisa maintained her dignity.
But hearing Remy had scened with every other single woman in the club & how he continued to sleep around all while avoiding Lisa because he thought she was rich... Yeah, that's a great reason to embarrass her. He was selfish, wanted to sew his wild oats, but he wouldn't let any other man look her way or he growls and becomes defensive... How the heck is that fair????
He turned down the heroine for a date and continued to sleep around... He didn't even choose to pursue Lisa... He got a job and that was what put her in his orbit. He came back into her life lying about why he was there. There was no character growth showing his regret and how he changes into a great man... No mostly he was a selfish jerk who used a bunch of excuses and ignored everyone else's feelings.
Usually? I love Lexi Blake's heros. This one? I felt so horrible and embarrassed for poor Lisa.
Please stop normalizing this type of behavior. Make your heroines strong enough to not fall prey to good looks and libido... Doormat heroine's who let the man sleep around and are willing to settle for his interest only after he's slept with literally every other option? How the heck is that suppose to be attractive? I mean seriously. The more I think on it the more it disturbs me that anyone thinks the behavior is okay/normal.

Enjoyed it more than the first two in the series.
Revisado: 10-08-21
Interesting story line, the plot definitely kept my engaged. I truly felt for Avery and everything her character endured in her life. At first, I thought Liam was pretty much disgusting the beginning 20-30% of the book. His inner thoughts about Avery were seriously awful. His history and how he thought/spoke about Avery was deplorable... It made me embarrassed for her character... So much that I abandoned the series for a while.
Then, I listened to this book a second time. Starting from the beginning... And, I didn't abandon the book part of the way through... So, I actually got to the part where Liam begins to change! He stops being so superficial.
He sees Avery as the most beautiful woman in the world... Not because of physical beauty alone but because he got close enough to appreciate her INNER beauty. And my whole outlook of this book and Liam's character changed... Talk about character growth! You actually see him changing to be a better man, to be deserving of Avery and her inherent goodness. Now that perspective completely changed how I felt about the first 20-30% of the book... I love seeing actual character growth!
I would recommend listening to this narrator on a speed of 1.60 or 1.75 (possibly a little faster lol). If you increase the speed drastically then it's actually quite enjoyable and the narrator becomes one of my favorites! Also, those different accents? This narrator does so many types/varieties and does them well!

Wasn't my favorite of the series.
Revisado: 10-08-21
Interesting story line. The plot wasn't my absolute favorite because I felt like they were all far to judgemental against the heroine... But, overall I love this series and to enjoy the later books... Well, you'll get more out of it by knowing all the early characters and how each of the plots come together...

Historia
Leaving my husband was hard. Trying to face the world alone with my teenage daughter is the sort of thing nightmares are made of, but I caught a break. My best friend just hired me for a great job, with perks like a rent-free house right beside not just one handsome man, but five! Each one is hotter than the last, and all of them seem interested in me. But everyone around us has these strange golden eyes...and there are the questions no one will answer. And who cares if there's a lot of wildlife running around at night? I do, especially when a wolf keeps sneaking into my backyard.

The narrators were excellent... Story was lacking.
Revisado: 05-06-21
The narration was excellent... However, the story line was sorely lacking something. I couldn't get over how many times the main character mentioned her age (40 years old) or her lack of self confidence (it was a major plot device... her self esteem/lack there of). The majority of conflict was based in the female main characters head and how she didn't feel good enough/on the same level of the men. It's hard to explain mostly it just felt exhausting or tedious... The same conversations had over and over again because the female mc didn't think she was an appropriate match for the 5 male mc's. The men were constantly talking about how awesome, sexy, wonderful, perfect the female mc was but the female mc didn't sell an ounce of it. Mostly, I felt the repetition of hearing the same things over and over again. Bummed.
