Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Thank you Stephen King....I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I even listened to it twice in a row. Great story! I am not a horror fan and admit I avoid those titles of yours....but THIS was a real gem!

Arriving to work one day to a crime scene, Flynn’s world collapses as the secrets of his tortured mind are revealed. And Flynn doesn’t want to go looking for answers at the supermarket. Because something there seems to be looking for him.

For a first try, it wasn't BAD....
Revisado: 03-30-19
But I knew the characters weren't real by chapter 2....and then I kept flashing onto Donnie Darko as the theme is similar....and naming the protagonist Frank? A bit on the nose. I get that a lot of the people who read/listened to this book are fans of the author/musician, and it IS a feat to be able to do both things.....but this was just a bit too derivative for me.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Ms. Moennig should not be an audiobook narrator...
Revisado: 09-12-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The story is good but listening to Ms. Moennig is tiring....while she is a talented actress, audiobook narration is a different sort of talent....which she apparently doesn't have....
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Connelly always pens a suspenseful tale
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katherine Moennig?
Almost ANY woman actress who commonly performs audiobook narration - there is an art to it, and Ms. Moennig doesn't have that art perfected...currently. It has been like listening to someone who has had WAAAAY too many espressos read the phone book.
Was The Late Show worth the listening time?
I have had to take breaks occasionally as listening to the narration has been....exhausting to listen to.

Blah blah BLAH blah blah blah.....
Revisado: 06-19-17
What disappointed you about Nest?
The second half of the book has a LOT of extraneous irrelevant verbiage about the dark net and "evil". Fine. By THAT point, we got it. We readers don't NEEEED to know hours and hours of minutia about evil killers and evil as a general topic. We already have that concept. While I am not quite done YET with this book, and I will finish it, hopefully things will pick up soon plot wise....I have attended enough lectures in college, I don't need to sit though another one wile listening to a book that is purported to be a "thriller" - the book could have been cut down by at least a quarter and accomplished a much better result.

Feckless Heroes?
Revisado: 03-27-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
yes, but I truly kept wanting to slap the "heroes" of the book silly.
Any additional comments?
With all the truly feckless blunders and stupid moves by ALL of the "good guys" in this book, it is a miracle all came out OK in the end.....I kept wanting to reach through the speaker and slap SOMEBODY.....

Revisado: 01-12-15
If you could sum up A Vision of Fire in three words, what would they be?
If you expected something a bit X-Files-y from Ms. Anderson, you will not be disappointed, though it falls more into Sci-Fi / WooWoo....story a bit confusing to follow, but overall enjoyable. Ms. Anderson's narration was top notch, as it should be.

I had to stop listening a little bit into the book
Revisado: 01-17-13
Would you listen to The Fifth Assassin again? Why?
This is a service to those Brad Meltzer fans out there- BEFORE you listen to The Fifth Assassin, which I was really looking forward to, you need to re-listen to The Inner Circle so that you are caught up on all of the nuances at the beginning of the book. It has been awhile between book releases, so frankly I had forgotten all but the major premise of the previous book.... so just a heads up to reread the prequel to this book first in order to get the most enjoyment from it.

Exciting spy tale, and then....
Revisado: 05-31-11
It is not often that I am predisposed to write any sort of review, however, I felt I had to comment on this one - the story itself has good momentum, and ultimately it ends well - very James Bond kind of a tale - but then there is the hour long history lesson at the end. I'm not adverse to learning about illuminated manuscripts and their corresponding history, and while it is interesting to me (I minored in art history with a focus on medieval art & architecture) the gross amount of historiana coupled with a James Bond type spy story was much like eating chocolate and then topping that off with a big bowl of bran.
