Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Unbelievably romantic
Revisado: 08-27-12
Would you try another book from Jess Walter and/or Edoardo Ballerini?
I don't think so.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I don't want to give away the plot but the most interesting thing was how the author got away with using a known person in his story.
Have you listened to any of Edoardo Ballerini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Could you see Beautiful Ruins being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes, it is perfect for a movie.
Any additional comments?
This is the second time I read a book based on extravagant praise by an audible reader/reviewer, and, the second time I was disappointed. I realize you want to sell books, but using over the top reviews might get a reader to buy one or two books but will not create a repeat buyer. I'll still buy audio books but will go to other sources for critiques.

Historia
Pocket has been Lear's cherished fool for years. So naturally Pocket is at his brainless, elderly liege's side when Lear demands that his kids swear to him their undying love and devotion. Of course Goneril and Regan are only too happy to brownnose Dad. But Cordelia believes that her father's request is kind of...well...stupid, and her blunt honesty ends up costing her her rightful share of the kingdom and earns her a banishment to boot.

Not as funny as I thought it would be.
Revisado: 07-23-12
What did you like best about Fool? What did you like least?
I liked the performer's voice and his acting ability. I also like the English use of
words both real and made-up. I assume some of the words were made-up as I
was not familiar with them. They have colorful words for many things.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
In order to enjoy this book at all, you must be familiar with the play "King Lear." While the story is quite distorted, there are many references that would be lost if you did not know the play. And, the author does point out some of the absurdities in the Shakespear play.
What about Euan Morton’s performance did you like?
Absolutely great.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. Some of the things depicted would be too vulgar on the screen.
Any additional comments?
The book is repetitious and gets quite boring after awhile. It would work better if it were shorter.

Historia
Seven of Charles Dickens' best ghost and thriller stories, which have been widely read and beloved worldwide. This collection celebrates the 200th anniversary of his birth. These stories provide a wonderful introduction Dickens before embarking upon his long novels; after these stories, listening to his longer novels becomes even more of a pleasure. Perfect for students and teachers seeking an understanding and appreciation of Dickens, without the time to engage with his long novels.

Don't bother
Revisado: 07-02-12
What disappointed you about Charles Dickens 200th Anniversary Ghost & Thriller Collection?
The stories were mildly interesting but the narrator had and abrasive voice that did not go with the stories and his reading was stilted.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I wouldn't even think of changing Charles Dickins.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Deaver Brown?
No idea.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.

An old story
Revisado: 06-25-12
Would you try another book from Richard Connell and/or B. J. Harrison?
I don't think so. Too hard to suspend my disbelief.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
It's not possible to enjoy someone hunting other humans to kill them.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
If you like being scared, this works.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I did look at the movie on Netflix. It is very old fashioned an in old Hollywood tradtion
they changed things around a bit.
Any additional comments?
I don't like to be scared so I jumped forward in the book so this is not a really fair review.

Childish and Oldfashioned, but sweet
Revisado: 06-11-12
What disappointed you about The Secret Garden?

stretch your believabliy. Very goody, goody.

Which character – as performed by Victoria McGee – was your favorite?
Didn't connect with any of the characters.

Historia
Little is known about the Ancient Greek oral poet Homer, the supposed 8th century BC author of the world-read Iliad and his later masterpiece, The Odyssey. These classic epics provided the basis for Greek education and culture throughout the classical age and formed the backbone of humane education through the birth of the Roman Empire and the spread of Christianity.

A simple story and a lot of gore
Revisado: 05-29-12
What made the experience of listening to The Iliad & The Odyssey the most enjoyable?
I've always been curious about these books and it satisfied my curiosity. The Odyssey had more of a story. The Iliad was mostly about fighting which does not interest me at all.
What could Homer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Given the characters simpler names in order to keep track of them. These names were probably simpler in his day.
Which character – as performed by John Lescault – was your favorite?
Hector. Even though he was a brutal warrier, he had a soft side.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. Many sessions
