Historia
Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down. A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs. But on this server, they don't care about the game. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: full pain.

Love Matt Dinniman, but holy S***
Revisado: 08-18-23
Love him as an author, devoured his other books, but this one was too much for me. I actually ended up returning it. Horror is one thing, torture porn is another, and I got nightmares after I read the first quarter of this book. It was interesting, which was why I got that far, but I honestly found myself googling what on earth is wrong with Matt Dinniman after I read the first part of it. If I was him, I would have published this under a pseudonym. maybe if all the torture and pain was saved for some final sequence where it was for some greater purpose, it would be OK, but that would make it a different story, and I don't want to read about people being tortured every other chapter in gruesome detail.

Historia
After being murdered, his consciousness dormant and unaware of the passing of time while confined in an elaborate water trap, Kai wakes to find a lesser mage attempting to harness Kai’s magic to his own advantage. That was never going to go well. But why was Kai imprisoned in the first place? What has changed in the world since his assassination? And why does the Rising World Coalition appear to be growing in influence? Kai will need to pull his allies close and draw on all his pain magic if he is to answer even the least of these questions.

Disappointed

Not terrible, but not great. Confusing and missing the magic that made martha wells my favorite author in the past.
