Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

one of my all time faves
Revisado: 03-30-24
I've listened to this at least 5 times and love it more each reread! The narration perfectly captures Murderbot's voice and internal thoughts. It's smart, funny, sarcastic, awkward, and I love it so much!

Historia
Eight months ago Jude Lucen fled his partner, his career, and a hospital in Boston after a suicide attempt. Now back in Philadelphia, he feels like a complete failure. Piano has always been his passion and his only escape. Without it, he has nothing. Well, nothing except a pathetic crush on the most gorgeous man he's ever seen. Faron Locklear came to Philly looking for a fresh start and has thrown himself into tattooing at Small Change. He's only met Jude a few times, but something about the red-haired man with the haunted eyes calls to him.

beautiful navigation of intimacy
Revisado: 11-29-23
One of my favorite things about Roan Parrish books is how she depicts the characters navigating intimacy, particularly when one or both experience anxiety around it. I loved seeing Faron show Jude how his depression and anxiety was a beautiful part of him and not something to be "dealt with." The theme of contrast in art and in life were beautifully woven into this love story. Narration was perfect.

Julia Whelan is perfect for this
Revisado: 04-26-23
I love this story, and Julia Whelan was the perfect narrator for it. Every voice was amazing, and I loved how Anne's voice changed as she got older. 5 million stars!!

Historia
Valentine Layton, the Duke of Malvern, has twin problems: literally. It was always his father’s hope that Valentine would marry Miss Arabella Tarleton. But, unfortunately, too many novels at an impressionable age have caused her to grow up...romantic. So romantic that a marriage of convenience will not do and after Valentine’s proposal she flees into the night determined never to set eyes on him again. Arabella’s twin brother, Mr. Bonaventure “Bonny” Tarleton, has also grown up...romantic. And fully expects Valentine to ride out after Arabella.

Perfect story and narration
Revisado: 02-06-22
Nicholas Boulton is perfection. I had to keep reminding myself that I was listening to one person voice all of these characters. It was the biggest joy to listen to him read this story to me.
The story itself is also perfection. It's hilarious and touching and tender and adventurous -- it contains multitudes. It is about freeing yourself from external expectations, exploring to find your true self, uncovering incorrect assumptions. It's a literal journey across the countryside and also a journey of self discovery. And, it contains such queer joy that my heart is bursting with happiness.

Historia
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Loved every bit of it!!
Revisado: 12-06-19
I loved the narration and the story. I'm kicking myself for not reading this years ago, but maybe I wouldn't have appreciated it then. It's so clever! I love it on the surface and for the social commentary. This is probably now my favorite Audible fiction book. Hard to think of another that would top it.
