A lot of twists and turns, I had a list of suspects, and none of them really panned out a nailbiter to the very end

Historia
From the attic of Driftwood House, there are stunning views of the deep green sea and sapphire sky. But Rosie can’t tear her eyes away from the faded photograph in her hands, and the words written on the back that will change everything.... Back in the tiny seaside village of Heaven’s Cove after the death of her mother, all Rosie Merchant wants is to hide her tears, rent out her childhood home and get back to her ‘real’ life, away from the gossiping villagers and wild Devon weather she escaped from years ago.

In Shameless, Brian Tyler Cohen lays bare the long con of the modern Republican Party. While the radical right continues hiding behind gaslighting maneuvers, artificial slogans, and hollow catchphrases, Cohen’s unflinching narrative illuminates the realities and dangers of the ever-widening gulf between the vaunted Republican brand and their actual behavior.

if only i could get my brother to listen
Revisado: 08-13-24
I was so excited for the release of this audio book and opened it immediately when it was unlocked at 12:01 a.m. on Aug 13.
I listened until the end, thinking throughout the experience- how insightful for a young guy.
Brian obviously did his research and he taught me a lesson or two.
I wish my brainwashed MAGA brother, and a few other delusional family members would listen to it and realize how misguided they are… and understand why.
The one thing I would change is at the very beginning. I would have liked to have heard Jamie Raskin narrate the “forward” he’d written.
Otherwise, well done Brian. Well worth the wait.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

well worth the wait
Revisado: 08-11-24
i loved this story, the characters, vivid descriptions of the rooms and goings on in the house and on the property.
As a journalist I recognized the frustration of having to convince their bosses that they were on to something important. And dealing with office politics of trying to overcome the underhanded golden child selfishly stealing a story.
Excellent job! i cannot wait for Lily’s next book!

The reader was excellent and the story so well written. As I listened I could see every scene vividly in my mind. I enthusiastically recommend this audiobook to people of all ages.
I cried at his hardships and smiled with every victory.

My new favorite author
Revisado: 11-14-21
I adore my dogs, from Bootsie, the faithful companion I had from ages 3-21, to my soulmate Baron, the Golden with whom I shared a birthday and who tragically died from bloat just shy of his sixth birthday, and whose spirit remains with me still, 10 years after his death.
His spirit was with me in my car as I searched for a new house mate - I had never been without a dog- and he led me to a very different female Sapsaree puppy that taught herself to alert me to elevated sugar and blood pressure levels when I slept. She will be 10 in 5 weeks.
We share our home with a 4 year old mixed breed rescued from a brutally abusive situation. She’s a wonderful girl, too, but only truly trusts me and my granddaughter.
I love Suzannas stories, and am inspired by her. I recommend her books to anyone that has ever loved a dog or thought about public service.
I’ve listened to all of her books, and if she and I both stay healthy enough, I can’t wait for her next release.

Historia
After the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, Susannah Charleson was so impressed by the newspaper photo of an exhausted handler and his search-and-rescue dog that she decided to train a dog of her own. A dog lover and pilot with search experience herself, Charleson got Puzzle, a strong, bright Golden Retriever, who from the start, exhibited a unique aptitude for search-and-rescue work. But the puppy’s willfulness challenged even Susannah, who had raised dogs for years.

Working Dogs are heaven sent
Revisado: 10-19-21
I loved this book for so many reasons. My best dog was my Golden. His successor, a female Sapsaree became my self taught medical alert service dog, focused on me but distracted by everything else.
My friend Jon trained his dog in search and rescue, so the subject is dear to my heart, although my girl didn’t have the discipline to get through the training.
Susannah made me laugh and cry as she recounted her adventures, ups and downs and her own heartbreaking account of how her illness impacted their job.
I would say this is a must read for every dog lover, first responder, or who is looking for a higher purpose in life.
Thank you for sharing this story.

Stephen, Stephen!
Revisado: 09-14-21
I started watching Stephen when he took over the Late Show after listening to my son, a fan of the Daily Show and Colbert Report, talk about him for years.
I enjoy his quirky sense of humor and quick wit.
I never saw the character described in this book, but now I know the roots of the Stephen Colbert that I’ve gotten to know and appreciate over the past decade or so.
Note: The narration was pretty good, but at times in the last chapter the voice sounded somewhat robotic.
Otherwise, I liked the book and getting to know my favorite late night tv host.
