Historia
When former spy Maggie Bird retired to the seaside hamlet of Purity, Maine, she settled in for a quiet life with breathtaking views. But enemies from her past soon threatened to destroy everything. Maggie survived, thanks to her wits and the collective intelligence of the Martini Club, the circle of ex-CIA friends in her cocktail-sipping book club. Their handiwork, however, caught the attention of young police chief Jo Thibodeau. Now Jo and her neighborhood ex-spies have an uneasy alliance.

Not a “martini club” book in series. Too much Jo
Revisado: 03-24-25
Positioned as one of the Martini Club series with the great, previous CIA retired agents. This one is all about a young sheriff named Jo. She’s fine. But just fine. Not clever or endearing or funny.

Good listen. Nothing special, a bit trite, but some fun dialogue with strong narration makes it work

Lame characters, lifted plot, lifeless narration
Revisado: 01-04-25
So many other authors have done a better version of this book; some with characters you care for, some with suspense, some with spectacular narration. The only reason to get this book is because it’s free and you’re stuck at the airport.

Kept waiting for a one big reveal or twist or exciting new character. The story just roams around Hollywood with nothing happening and something almost happening. Terribly disappointing

But then she met Alan, a charming and sweet-natured salesman whose job took him on the road for half the year. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, even though he still felt a little bit like a stranger.

Five main characters; half quite interesting and half just annoying. Narrator for Martha was great and Lily was terrible (robotic).

Terrific narration. Story tries to go into the mind of an autistic young woman. However, the character is only 17 and acts 30 but with autistic habits. Really lame and annoying.

Formulaic but fun
Revisado: 06-01-24
Exactly what you’d expect - nothing more or less. Overly dramatic characters without a lot of common sense, the good character (always a woman with RW) vs bad guy. Poor editing, a narrator that makes the main character constantly sounding panicked, decent suspense, fun location to imagine.

Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Cute, great narration but so Predictable, and way too many similes
Revisado: 05-18-24
Julia Whelan is the only reason to listen to this book (and she’s narrated so many; try another). This is one long list of similes. The author trying too hard to be witty & creative with descriptions. How many times do we hear about how he smelled liked ginger? And only authors of med school textbooks should use the words “trapezius muscles” more than once.
