It amazes me that one can write ad Infinitum in the manner of this novel about the self involved trials and tribulations of writing a novel with all the cliché Accoutrements of homespun drama ( ain’t Kaintuck cute) .. not much there there.: as far as I could see.: however many I think have read this novel and enjoyed.:.. so it is .:

Historia
The best-selling author of Truman and John Adams, David McCullough has written profiles of exceptional men and women past and present who have not only shaped the course of history or changed how we see the world but whose stories express much that is timeless about the human condition. Here are Alexander von Humboldt, whose epic explorations of South America surpassed the Lewis and Clark expedition; Harriet Beecher Stowe, "the little woman who made the big war”....

A poignant read for the context of our times today
Revisado: 07-25-21
The past is prologue… I just wish more Americans would read and learn about the formation of our country from eloquent authors such as David McCullough .
We, living in these contemporary times of the incessant barrage of social media sound byte visual snippets are at the mercy of the impact of little to no reflection and reason .. which are so important for us as Americans and as a Species to survive.. and with integrity pay it forward to the next generations ..

Historia
On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally - and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless."

Verbal reading over the top
Revisado: 06-12-20
The individual who read the book aloud became a distraction. The verbal interpretation of the characters’ words was too obviously exaggerated .. and took attention from the narrative

Compelling novel ... with many lyrical qualities ... great throughout
Revisado: 05-29-19
The book is quite an accomplishment ... the writer tells a tale that seems plausible in so many ways about a time , a nation, a conflict, turmoil , and the people that endured tremendous upheaval collectively and personally ... the novel reveals via its characters( often in lyrical ways) the soul of the Vietnamese .. through the experience of the main character the reader is immersed in a revealing ( always intriguing) and sometimes disturbing perspective of the realities that manifest with the strife between the ideals of striving for freedoms and the often caustic realities that occur instead ... the main character in and of himself represents this dichotomy exquisitely ... very well done ... kudos to the writer indeed

Historia
If you were black in America at the start of the Revolutionary War, whom would you want to win? In response to a declaration by the last governor of Virginia that any rebel-owned slave who escaped and served the King would be emancpated, tens of thousands of blacks voted with feet, escaping to fight beside the British. Originally designed to break the plantations of the American South, this military strategy instead unleashed one of the great exoduses in American history.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.
