As an avid reader, I recently immersed myself in the captivating world of "Punk 57" by Penelope Douglas. While the book held my attention, I must admit that I did not realize it fell under the YA genre initially. I had anticipated a narrative that would span the characters' lives, starting from their younger days and progressing into adulthood. However, I soon realized that the entire story takes place within the realm of high school, and I acknowledge that this was my misunderstanding.

I am far from sheltered, and I prefer the erotica I read to be about adults rather than high schoolers. This preference, however, stems from my personal tastes and not a flaw in Ms. Douglas's writing. Due to the graphic and well-written erotica present in the book, I would not recommend it to my own high school-aged daughter.

Nevertheless, I must commend Penelope Douglas for her writing style, which skillfully captures the essence of adolescence and the complexities of teenage emotions. I found her approach to be tasteful, particularly when delicate moments were portrayed. I genuinely appreciated the author's ability to handle such subject matter with sensitivity.

While "Punk 57" may not have aligned with my initial genre expectations, I remain open to exploring more of Penelope Douglas's works in the future. However, I would personally gravitate towards her other novels that are not categorized as young adult. This reading experience has sparked my curiosity about what she has to offer beyond the boundaries of the young adult genre.

"The Discovery Machine: The Journey Through Thought" by Thomas Clinton Procter is an exceptional work of fiction that combines captivating storytelling with thought-provoking themes. Set in a world where time travel is possible, the story follows the thrilling adventures of Maria and Phillip, two intellectually curious high school students who stumble upon an extraordinary device that allows them to witness pivotal moments in history.

Procter's masterful storytelling keeps readers engrossed from the very first page. His meticulous attention to historical details and vivid descriptions transports readers to different eras, making the narrative feel incredibly immersive. The author's ability to seamlessly weave together elements of science fiction, adventure, and coming-of-age themes is truly commendable.

One of the most impressive aspects of "The Discovery Machine" is Procter's exploration of the human experience through the eyes of the young protagonists. As Maria and Phillip encounter life-altering events during their time-traveling escapades, they grapple with personal tragedies and confront their own limitations. This adds a depth and emotional resonance to the story, making it more than just a thrilling adventure.

Hi, I'm Jen (she/her). Yes, you can use my name. First-time reviewer long-time listener. Well... Long as in a few months. Since your holiday break (R.I.P Bailey. I am so sorry for your loss. ), I started skipping around. I wanted to start back at episode 1, but scrolling to get there, I saw episodes I couldn't pass up. I finally made it to the Golden State killer. With all respect, you girls have come a long way. Not just with audio and whatnot, but you both dedicate each episode to the victims and share as much knowledge from all your research. I respect you both and am happy I found you. Keep it weird!
