Historia
In the wake of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the American government confiscated the homes, animals, businesses, and personal possessions of Japanese Americans, citizens all. At the Tule Lake Internment Camp, a Japanese American girl sought solace by retreating to the furthest edge of the camp’s barbed-wire enclosure. Outside the barbed-wire-crowned metal fence, with its frightening armed guard towers, a curious American boy one day cautiously approached on his bike to say a nervous hello to the girl who so intrigued him from a distance. This visit started four years of meetings.

In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed. It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever. For the next seven years, it was us. She's the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 05-14-24
As an avid reader, I recently immersed myself in the captivating world of "Punk 57" by Penelope Douglas. While the book held my attention, I must admit that I did not realize it fell under the YA genre initially. I had anticipated a narrative that would span the characters' lives, starting from their younger days and progressing into adulthood. However, I soon realized that the entire story takes place within the realm of high school, and I acknowledge that this was my misunderstanding.
I am far from sheltered, and I prefer the erotica I read to be about adults rather than high schoolers. This preference, however, stems from my personal tastes and not a flaw in Ms. Douglas's writing. Due to the graphic and well-written erotica present in the book, I would not recommend it to my own high school-aged daughter.
Nevertheless, I must commend Penelope Douglas for her writing style, which skillfully captures the essence of adolescence and the complexities of teenage emotions. I found her approach to be tasteful, particularly when delicate moments were portrayed. I genuinely appreciated the author's ability to handle such subject matter with sensitivity.
While "Punk 57" may not have aligned with my initial genre expectations, I remain open to exploring more of Penelope Douglas's works in the future. However, I would personally gravitate towards her other novels that are not categorized as young adult. This reading experience has sparked my curiosity about what she has to offer beyond the boundaries of the young adult genre.

Hi, I'm Jen (she/her). Yes, you can use my name. First-time reviewer long-time listener. Well... Long as in a few months. Since your holiday break (R.I.P Bailey. I am so sorry for your loss. ), I started skipping around. I wanted to start back at episode 1, but scrolling to get there, I saw episodes I couldn't pass up. I finally made it to the Golden State killer. With all respect, you girls have come a long way. Not just with audio and whatnot, but you both dedicate each episode to the victims and share as much knowledge from all your research. I respect you both and am happy I found you. Keep it weird!
