Historia
Three months have passed since Richard Jury was left bereft and guilt- ridden after his lover's tragic auto accident, and he is now more wary than ever. He is deeply suspicious when requested on a case far out of his jurisdiction in an outlying village, where a young woman has been murdered behind the local pub. The only witness is the establishment's black cat, who gives neither crook nor clue as to the girl's identity or her killer's.

Story ok; narration not
Revisado: 11-08-24
The new narrator simply ruined the book. His voice characterizations distorted Jury and others as well as creating an aggressive ambiance, negating the humor so crucial to these novels.

Historia
An unexpected death on a lonely road outside of Utah’s Bears Ears National Park raises questions for Navajo Tribal Police officers Jim Chee and Bernadette Manuelito. Why would a seasoned outdoorsman and well-known paleontologist freeze to death within walking distance of his car? A second death brings more turmoil. Who is the unidentified man killed during a home invasion where nothing seems to have been taken? Why was he murdered? An illicit business, a fossilized jaw bone, hints of witchcraft, and a mysterious disappearance during a blizzard add to the peril.

Disappointed
Revisado: 05-09-23
The narration is flat. The story is predictable. It amazed me that Bernie and Jim were regularly fooled by obvious criminals. I do appreciate the lack of gore and violence, but the predictable plot line made this a less than stellar contribution. Anne Hillerman has written better books.

Good but
Revisado: 09-13-22
This is a difficult book to listen to. Hearing texts and tweets, with all the associated jargon, made the story and characters difficult to remember and know. It is a book better read than heard.

Fantastic narrator!
Revisado: 12-08-21
Dick Francis had a real understanding of people and their psyches. This novel demonstrates the confident prose and insightful story telling that are hallmarks of his writing. And the narrator of this book adds depth with an interpretation that hits the target perfectly.

His blood ran cold.
Revisado: 11-09-21
I stopped counting how many times this phrase was used, but it, along with, “Are you kidding me?” and “gut instinct” made me believe that editors no longer influence their authors. Or, perhaps, neither the author or the editor have respect for their readers. If you want a formulaic action novel, read by a narrator whose voice falls, sometimes to an inaudibly level, at the end of each sentence, this is your book.

Historia
Sonchai Jitpleecheep is back! The Royal Thai Police detective, our wily, sometimes madly bold guide through the author's previous acclaimed Bangkok novels, is this time on the trail of an American conspiracy and once again - and closer than ever - on the trail of his American father. With Sonchai on this case is the young female inspector, Krom. Like Sonchai, she's an outsider on the police force, but unlike him, she is socially savvy and a technological prodigy.

Difficult to hear
Revisado: 03-06-20
I've enjoyed all the Burdett books except this one. The end of this one is shocking, but an even more significant problem is the narrator. His use of accents is excellent, but his voice tone goes back and forth from loud to quiet in a very brief time, so it was common for me to miss one the soft, quieter words. I found it very frustrating.
