Same old issues with cultivation series

The cycle of surprise issue -> grr real hard for 5mins-> realize something obvious to solve it -> surprise new issue
I am constantly confused why all the mcs and friends decide to play softball with ppl trying to kill them. Then get angry when the opponent does something they could have prevented.
Why does someone who can move instantly miles, decide that standing in front of his enemies, and fighting at arms length makes any sense, especially since friends are supposed to be on the line
I enjoy thought provoking internal dialogue but, unfortunately there is none, the conclusion is simply” they were the same all along” three times a row. I expect a more philosophical argument than “oh I thought real hard and realized it”
