Historia
Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, is a tale of love and marriage told with irony and insight. Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth have met and seperated years before. Their reunion, after the passage or irrecoverable years of their youth, forces a recognition of the false values that drove them apart.

Great story, great reader. Makes you think about what you have been persuaded to do/not to do. Lovely glimpse at culture and women’s choices at that time.

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Historia
Catriona, first published in 1893, is the sequel to Kidnapped and continues the adventures of David Balfour and his friend Alan Breck. Balfour returns to the city in order to defend Breck against false charges in the Appin murder. In so doing, he becomes a pawn in a game between feuding Scottish clans; he also sets eyes on a young woman whose involvement in the same matter becomes as central to his actions as his desire to vindicate his comrade in arms.

Great story - Scottish accent hard to understand
Revisado: 10-31-23
I had to slow audio down to .85 to make out the most of the Scottish accent. Great story nonetheless.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Historia
From 1501 to 1505, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti both lived and worked in Florence. Leonardo was a charming, handsome 50-year-old at the peak of his career. Michelangelo was a temperamental sculptor in his mid-20s, desperate to make a name for himself. Michelangelo is a virtual unknown when he returns to Florence and wins the commission to carve what will become one of the most famous sculptures of all time: David.

Like a rummage sale - has some good points but you have to uncover them
Revisado: 12-18-21
I liked entertaining the idea of the rivalry between the two great artists. I like the way the illicit relationships of DaVinci were covered in a very high level - not a lot of smutty detail. I like the way the author tried to get in the mind of a great sculptor. I have a better appreciation for the works of art discussed in book. Overall it was just ok, not a classic to live through the ages, but worth considering.

Violent, borderline soft porn, but brings cathedral building to life
Revisado: 08-06-19
This was a tough one to review - life during Middle Ages was indeed tough so the author is reflecting history. However, it was too graphic for me (detailed rape scenes and violent death scenes) and the romance scenes are very detailed and borderline soft porn. In the other hand. The author did a GREAT job of bringing to life this era of history and I assure you that I will never look at cathedrals the same again! That part of the book was fascinating g! My compromise was to fast forward through the stuff I didn’t like and enjoy the parts I did like.
