Each chapter tackles essential topics, from mastering emotions to navigating friendships, all with a sense of humor that makes learning feel like an adventure rather than a chore. I especially loved the “Ninja of Nice” chapter—who wouldn’t want to be a kindness ninja? The tips are practical and relatable, making it easy for tweens to grasp and apply them.
Overall, this audiobook is a great resource for kids on the brink of adolescence. It balances fun with meaningful content, reminding us that growing up doesn’t have to be boring. Practical, Insightful, and Worth Your Time
Revisado: 12-29-24
We all know someone who struggles with toxic behavior...many times, that person might be us. So, if you have any desire to become a better version of yourself - both for your sake and for the people around you - this is a great place to start.
On the whole, the advice is very actionable, and it all felt very realistic and easy to implement - if you have a mind to do so. Listening to a workbook is very different than going through a physical copy, though, and some sections required a little imagination and deep introspection on my part as I followed a few of the exercises. That said, it's an incredibly valuable book, and I learned a lot about myself during the journey. I'd just recommend grabbing a notebook while you're listening, in order to jot down thoughts, ideas, or examples that come to mind.
On the whole, this is something that everyone should pick up and approach with serious intent. Even if you don't think of yourself as a toxic person, there's always room to improve!

The Only Pregnancy Book You'll Ever Need
Revisado: 12-17-24
This book is essential for anyone who's pregnant or plans to become pregnant. My wife and I happen to fall into the "plans to become pregnant" camp, and this resource has provided a great deal of clarity around topics that have been causing some angst. For example, my wife wants to have a quiet home birth, with no family or friends present. In many of our relational and medical circles, this plan has been met with active resistance, usually in the form of (what feels like) emotional manipulation. When Naomi made a case for home births, it was genuinely the first time anyone had ever validated our decision.
That alone would be enough for me to give it 5 stars, but there's more. The author's background as a doula gives her a lot of insight and credibility around the pregnancy and birthing processes, and she goes into detail regarding what to expect trimester after trimester. It was especially encouraging to get a reference point for when the baby will start kicking, as well as learning that sex is perfectly safe and beneficial, even in late-stage pregnancy - barring major health concerns, of course.
On the whole, when it comes to pregnancy, if you want to know what to expect and how to prepare for it, this is the only book you'll ever need. 10/10 for me!

Great Intro to Somatic Therapy!
Revisado: 11-05-24
A great look into the world of somatic therapy! This has been an area of interest for me for well over a decade. I actually got a double major in college (biology and psychology) because I was so fascinated by the way the mind and body work together, and it's genuinely crazy how much they intersect.
I loved all of the practical advice scattered throughout the book - the breathwork tips, in particular, were incredibly helpful. As someone who occasionally finds himself holding his breath (or just breathing too shallowly), this was a great reminder and a great guide to keep me on track. And later on, talking about habit formation, the tips really resonated with me. One of the suggestions was to think of circumstances that might challenge or prevent you from forming a particular habit and make plans to counter those sticky spots. As someone with a sales background, this just reminded me of addressing customer objections before they're even brought up, which I thought was brilliant.
On the whole, Untie Your Knots is the best book on somatic therapy that I've ever consumed. Definitely worth getting if you're interested in working through trauma in an alternative (yet highly effective) style of therapy.
