Started out okay … got worse with each sequel
Revisado: 07-15-24
Started out okay … got worse with each sequel thereafter.
One hour left in book 3, I’ve already decided not to continue this series.
Nothing worse than a main character that (supposedly) gets stronger and has more training … but continues to be pathetically weak.
Frankly the only reason I made it to book 3 is my almost obsessive desire to see how things unfold. Otherwise, the writing isn’t strong enough to keep your attention. In fact, it seems to just meander along.

He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

Sniveling Beta Male Gamer-Geek drivel
This is for a specific teen/young “adult” audience.
The weak and wobbly narrator’s voice fits this genre perfectly.
I’ve read other versions from same author in this same genre that wasn’t quite this bad — but this one I couldn’t actually finish.

This series seemed to wind down … lamely.
Revisado: 01-28-24
This series seemed to wind down lamely. By the time I finished that last book, instead of wishing there was more to the series, I was really ready for it to end. It finally did with a stumble and a tumble where it lay in a anticlimactic pathetic heap.
Not horrible, but far from a captive read.
In the end it sort of came across as written for young teens which it likely was.

Opposites attack! When the Magelord Minalan the Spellmonger’s two apprentices, Tyndal and Rondal, were knighted after the battle of Timberwatch, they were dubbed Knights Magi: A new class of nobility for distinguished High Magi. Designed to combine the pursuit of arcane knowledge with the noble aspirations of chivalry, it elevated them above common warmage...in theory. The problem was they had no idea how to be a Knight Mage...because no one had ever been one before.

Yuck. A Threesome? Really?
Revisado: 01-23-24
I had read all books up to book 15 when I realized I had accidentally skipped book 4. While this book was okay, ended up with a 3-some with Tindel, Rondel & some “maiden”. WTF? While I have enjoyed the whole series, if I hadn’t skipped book 4 on accident I likely would’ve stopped there. This whole book did come across a bit off and this final sex episode sealed it. Unless you’re a randy teener could likely skip this book and not miss a bit with the overall plot/arc of the book series and be better off.

The Narrative continues ….
Revisado: 11-24-23
Having read the entire series up to this book and enjoyed them all, I was dismayed that Rowling decided to perpetuate the moronic narrative of Leftists/Feminists about the so-called “gamer-gate” that the gamers that view SJW’s as little more than virtue-signaling morons are “Neo-Nazis”. One can only hope that after she’s now run head-long into the buzz-saw that is online the Far-Left gender thugs, she is less inclined to blindly soaking in the Mainstream Narrative.
The book is still a decent read, but there is that disturbing scent about it.

Warning! Equivalent of a bad Chick-Flick
Revisado: 10-21-23
If a Sookie Stackhouse novel had a sickly love-child (sans the vampires) with a Harlequin Romance novel it would be this book. It is the script of a Hallmark Special infected with an STD from Sex in the City.
I definitely won’t be giving the sequels a listen.

Give This One a Miss
Revisado: 10-13-23
Even if you’re a big Monster Hunter fan, you likely will want to give this one a miss. Writing is sub-par as it is a collaboration, but beyond that, it is the narrator that gives this listen the death knell. It is almost painful at times.

Well Written … Buy Frustrating!
Revisado: 09-18-23
The author is skilled and the entire series is well written. However, that said, do NOT get attached to any one character as they’ll likely be killed off. Also, vengeance and justice doesn’t occur until the 4 book so get used to never ending failure and ruin along the way in the first 3 books. To me, never a victory or success and characters you learned to like getting killed off becomes a very frustrating read. The ending sort of brings around a relief from that, but not totally satisfying. The 4th book is a final victory, however, clearly things are left in a way that this can conceivably be undone so that more books can be written and the author/publisher can cash in.

Narrator Makes this Title Unlistenable
Revisado: 04-15-23
Seriously, I don’t know if this book is a good read or not because the narrator definitely makes it unlistenable. Admittedly the dialogue I did get to hear was fairly hackneyed, and had the odor of a bad teen book. That said I can sometimes overlook that if the story line is interesting. But, again, the narrator completely destroys the experience. One has to wonder if the author had any say in the selection process of the key person who would have such an impact on the book’s appeal to readers.
