Historia
This landmark account of the U.S. Navy in the Cold War, Who Can Hold the Sea combines narrative history with scenes of stirring adventure on—and under—the high seas. In 1945, at the end of World War II, the victorious Navy sends its sailors home and decommissions most of its warships. But this peaceful interlude is short-lived, as Stalin, America’s former ally, makes aggressive moves in Europe and the Far East.

WOW the amount of information and the knowledge required to write history like this is amazing.
The amount of time he had to put into this book and do it so well is to me mind boggling.
I am a history nut and I knew something about most of the items he talked about.
He took me on a fast and pleasant ride and thought me not only things I didn't know but best of all he demonstrated to me how all this ft together.
I truly appreciate this book and I will have to read it again. I am going to reference to it often.

Historia
The nearly half-million American air crewmen who served during World War II have almost disappeared. And so have their stories. Award-winning writer and former fighter pilot Jay A. Stout uses Unsung Eagles to save an exciting collection of those accounts from oblivion. These are not rehashed tales from the hoary icons of the war. Rather, they are stories from the masses of largely unrecognized men who - in the aggregate - actually won it.

Historia
Washington's rise constitutes one of the greatest self-reinventions in history. In his mid-20s, this third son of a modest Virginia planter had ruined his own military career thanks to an outrageous ego. But by his mid-40s, that headstrong, unwise young man had evolved into an unassailable leader chosen as the commander in chief of the fledgling Continental Army. By his mid-50s, he was unanimously elected the nation's first president. How did Washington emerge from the wilderness to become the central founder of the United States of America?

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

I love History I feel ashamed that I never thought of reading about Hamilton. I had read of him history but never about him. This book was a eye opener. It is a very easy read. I recommend this book as a vital read to anybody who really wants to know how the USA came into existence.

The fascinating biography of the man who laid the foundation for the CIA. One of the most celebrated and highly decorated heroes of World War I, a noted trial lawyer, presidential adviser and emissary, and chief of America’s Office of Strategic Services during World War II, William J. Donovan was a legendary figure. Donovan, originally published in 1982, penetrates the cloak of secrecy surrounding this remarkable man. The result is the definitive biography that Donovan himself had always expected Dunlop would write.

Historia
With The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors and Ship of Ghosts, James D. Hornfischer created essential and enduring narratives about America’s World War II Navy, works of unique immediacy distinguished by rich portraits of ordinary men in extremis and exclusive new information. Now he does the same for the deadliest, most pivotal naval campaign of the Pacific war: Guadalcanal. Neptune’s Inferno is at once the most epic and the most intimate account ever written of the contest for control of the seaways of the Solomon Islands.

I was never called to serve I have talked in length to at least dozen veterans about there war service.
My dad was in the war but never would tell me anything. I had to find his story by other means.
My father in law would talk but I just could not understand.
Threw all 70 years I have made it my duty to learn as much as I could. Sometimes they would cry telling me there stories.
I will never be able to grasp what they went threw. I cannot however read these stories without feelings.

Historia
November 1943 to May 1945. The US Army Air Forces waged an unprecedentedly dogged and violent campaign against Hitler's vital oil production and industrial plants on theThird Reich's southern flank. Flying from southern Italy, far from the limelight enjoyed by the Eighth Air Force in England, the Fifteenth Air Force engaged in high-risk missions spanning most of the European continent. The story of the Fifteenth Air Force deserves a prideful place in the annals of American gallantry.

Historia
Who wrote Great Expectations? That’s easy: Charles Dickens. Who’s the author of Beloved? Toni Morrison, of course. Now how about the Old Testament? You’d think for a book as widely known, studied, and distributed as the Bible, the question of authorship would have been sorted out by now. But the question is more complex (and fascinating) than it seems. Why? Because asking it is to challenge everything we might assume about the Bible’s identity as a book, about what “writing” and “authorship” really mean, and about how a written text could become sacred.

What a Great Courses Book Is Meant to Be
- De Gilbert M. Stack en 12-16-21
A somewhat different view of the Bible. Very good.
Revisado: 01-13-22
Like the other books on the Bible it is confusing and difficult. I always want to quit before I finish.
But I don't and it has always been worth it.
It proves that reading the Bible is both easy and hard at the same time.
I have been studying the Bible over 50 years and every time I read it seems like it's the first time all over again.
The book has caused me to question everything I know all over again.
Very good write.
