Historia
Mickey Haller gets the text, "Call me ASAP—187," and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game. When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life. Far from saving her, Mickey may have been the one who put her in danger.

One of the best books ever
Revisado: 12-20-24
I love the unending suspense while the main character, Mickey, who is one of literature’s most likeable characters, works this case. Every milestone realization Mickey makes, and the exciting action leading up to them, is so very interesting and I can’t believe how the author, Michael Connelly, can put all this together. The writing in his books blows me away. It’s like some kind of magic. This novel in particular really grabbed me, and the philosophical thoughts of Mickey at the end gave me those tingles from a profundity that only a very good writer can engender.

Wonderful biography of President Truman. Pure enjoyment to listen to such a well written account of such a great man and leader, Truman and his times are really brought to life, and his so very many momentous decisions while in the White House. Not a dull moment in this book, and the narration only adds to this masterfully written history.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

I liked absolutely everything about this book..I can’t believe I found such an inventive, refreshingly new mystery. I had to force myself to put it down so that I could get some sleep last night. Fast paced, great characters, exceptional voice actors.

Historia
The Passage of Power follows Lyndon Johnson through both the most frustrating and the most triumphant periods of his career - 1958 to 1964. It is a time that would see him trade the extraordinary power he had created for himself as Senate Majority Leader for what became the wretched powerlessness of a Vice President in an administration that disdained and distrusted him. Yet it was, as well, the time in which the presidency, the goal he had always pursued, would be thrust upon him in the moment it took an assassin’s bullet to reach its mark.

Great writing style
Revisado: 09-16-24
This author knows how to write history in a very easy to follow way. And the performance of the voice reading was not distracting in any way, in fact, his voice sounded perfect for this story. Thirdly, and equally important, a very interesting story. One gets great insight into a myriad of political machinations of the time.

How much we owe to them
Revisado: 02-27-24
My heart sings with love and gratitude for the American Allied soldiers, and that this great tribute to them was written. This book tells it like it was for them in WW2, often in their own words. It is a wonderfully written, read, and immensely engaging true story. I could hardly put it down. Thank you to those who put their lives on the line for us, those who made it back, often with physical and emotional toll, and those who died for us, for our freedoms. And thank you to Mr Ambrose for giving us this clear window into these men, and the bonds forged from such momentous events.

In depth peak into some monumentous history
Revisado: 02-20-24
I very much enjoyed this true historical tale about the Japanese community in Hawaii, and the backstage events/people surrounding the Pearl Harbor tragedy. I learned behind the scenes espionage and military machinations and much more. The story was anchored by the main character of an inspiring Japanese American male who, because of his likability, intelligence, and fluent Japanese, became involved with investigating for the USA. I couldn’t stop listening because every single sentence was important and led to yet more interesting sentences -yet it all flowed well, and also the narration was quite in tune with the story itself.

Historia
Why did Agatha Christie spend her career pretending that she was "just" an ordinary housewife, when clearly she wasn't? Lucy Worsley's biography is not just of a massively, internationally successful writer. It's also the story of a person who, despite the obstacles of class and gender, became an astonishingly successful working woman. With access to rarely seen personal letters and papers, Lucy Worsley's biography is both authoritative and entertaining and makes us realize what an extraordinary pioneer Agatha Christie was—truly a woman who wrote the twentieth century.

Extremely interesting historical subject
Revisado: 12-10-23
I was drawn to this Lucy Worsley biography of Agatha Christie by Worsley’s PBS tv show about her which was very interesting, so much so that it left me wanting more. The book doesn’t disappoint! So much source material is quoted, (as well as critiqued from historical perspectives), that it boggles the mind how many different places Ms Worsley must have had to look! Added to her ability to write interestingly, AND, she is a great narrator too! What a treasure this book is. What a life Agatha Christie had!

Just keep LISTENING
Revisado: 11-22-23
This French story is good for any level of beginner and intermediate too. That’s a very wide spectrum. I have only listened once thus far, but I notice that I am starting to pick up more words and that’s very encouraging. The secret is to give yourself permission to understand as little or as much as you might: realizing that by continuing your French language study, you will very slowly “get” more of what is being said each time you listen. Even if it’s just a few nouns/verbs/adjectives etc in the beginning. But also make sure your choice of study course has a listening component.

Fast paced, incredibly interesting and informative
Revisado: 11-21-23
This book was fascinating to me. Ms Smith is not only a good historical researcher, but she can write so well. To get a glimpse into the some of the motivations of, and interactions between, WW2’s major personalities who shaped the liberation of Paris - priceless. I now want to read more about Eisenhower especially, and DeGaul, and (I have to go back to see the German’s name in print). And the narration also perfect in that I just heard the story, no distraction by unnecessary inflections or droning (bored voice) etc. I am hoping this author has other books because I value her approach to history. I like that she draws parallels between specific actions by DeGaul, or Eisenhower to, for example, Ulysses S Grant in America’s civil war…There is info about Churchill and Roosevelt as pertains to liberating Paris. Loved this book!
