Historia
For Nick Soren, it was the best of times and the worst of times. Having made more money working for the devil than he could ever spend, he lived it up in a haze of booze and drugs. Until the devil put a hit out on him. On the run, Nick finds help from someone he never expected - another of the devil’s previous hit men - who wants Nick to kill the devil. But there are vampires and hell hounds on his tail, and that is going to make things...difficult. Can Nick get clear of the supernatural creatures hunting him long enough to take his shot and get revenge on the devil?

Narration elevation.
Revisado: 10-03-19
The narration really brings the best out in this book. For the most part it's standard Urban Fantasy. If you feel an itch for Dresden you can't scratch this'll do it. It won't blow your mind, but the performance makes it worth a listen.

Not good. Not bad.
Revisado: 08-01-17
It was ok. Nothing terribly special from a character perspective, a little preachy at times, but solidly entertaining. It's hard not to hear Wil Wheaton as Wil Wheaton which is distracting.

Excellent work.

If you like anything else Tad Williams has done you'll like this. It's brilliant. But it is only a beginning that seems to lead to mich greater places.

Not up to Malazan Par
Revisado: 10-02-16
Still better than most other books, but the way the story is told is disorienting at first and for a book its size not a lot happens, there's just a lot of PoV's showing the same things. It suffers from prequal syndrome.

Historia
When marine private Oliver Chadwick Gardenier is killed in the marine barrack bombing in Beirut, somebody who might be Saint Peter gives him a choice: Go to heaven, which, while nice, might be a little boring, or return to earth. The Boss has a mission for him, and he's to look for a sign. He's a marine: He'll choose the mission. Unfortunately, the sign he's to look for is "57". Which, given the food services contract in Bethesda Hospital, creates some difficulty. Eventually it appears that God's will is for Chad to join a group called Monster Hunters International.

The Name of the Wind with Guns(But not awesome.)
Revisado: 08-05-16
Seriously, if you pitched me The Name of the Wind with Guns I'd be all over it. I love that book and guns in books are entertaining. Especially with Larry's knowledge on the subject.
Unfortunately this book has no drama. There are no stakes. None of the downbeaten anything. No struggle It's just the story of poor rich supersmart supergreat linguist katana master Chad who hates his parents succeeding at everything. He gets hurt. Then healed. There's no tension. Nothing. Just him being ridiculously good at everything and beating monsters with little to no challenge. When his injuries are inconvenient they vanish.
And Chad is generally kind of unlikeable. But that's ok if the story is interesting. Unfortunately this is just a bunch of drama starved short stories held together by the loose often boring glue of Chad's narration.

This is probably my favorite non-cosmere novel. The big reveal is a key part of my philosophy, and I enjoy how well this demonstrates dealing with it. It's a fantastic story.

Historia
The Seven Cities Rebellion has been crushed. Sha’ik is dead. One last rebel force remains, holed up in the city of Y’Ghatan and under the fanatical command of Leoman of the Flails. The prospect of laying siege to this ancient fortress makes the battle-weary Malazan Fourteenth Army uneasy. For it was here that the Empire’s greatest champion, Dassem Ultor, was slain and a tide of Malazan blood spilled. A place of foreboding, its smell is of death. But elsewhere, agents of a far greater conflict have made their opening moves.

Gloaming review.
Revisado: 01-05-15
I both love and hate the Malazan series. I love the world, the balance of grit, humor, heroics, and DBZ level power struggles. The prose is often too high level for a casual read, and the books tend to burn me out after a book and a half or so.(Which is admittedly the length of 3-5 normal books.) The audiobooks solve this, but take soooo much time. Either way though, if you like Fantasy and want something with just the right level of grit, Malazan is perfect(assuming you don't mind the occasional googling of words like gloaming.) Just remember to give it three and a half books before you understand the magic systems at all.
