Historia
“From exactly midnight until daybreak, the Namiya General Store advice box will be reopening for one night only.” When three delinquents hole up in an abandoned general store after their most recent robbery, to their great surprise, a letter drops through the mail slot in the store’s shutter. This seemingly simple request for advice sets the trio on a journey of discovery as, over the course of a single night, they step into the role of the kindhearted former shopkeeper who devoted his waning years to offering thoughtful counsel to his correspondents.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Historia
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's stunning debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

Memories
Revisado: 11-12-21
I was a teen in Hawaii after the war and have personal friends who were sent to camps. Many had neighbors who farmed their land and kept it safe for them. I am 77 years old. I know understand why my Chinese friends were so adamant to point out that they were Chinese. They didn’t say “Not Japanese”! This was an interesting viewpoint of the times. I like the detail of what the elders were thinking and what drove their stance. I think women had a more present stance, and lived in the present more than the past.

Perfect Romance
Revisado: 06-04-16
This was the first Cathy Maxwell romance that I enjoyed by audio. The accents of the reader give it extra character. I have loved all her books. Love is a strong emotion that takes many twists. She covers them all. I highly recommend this book and author and I will look for more audio Books by Cathy Maxwell!
