Historia
Reed Timmer is one of the most successful and most extreme storm chasers in the world. His is a job that requires science and bravado, knowledge and instinct just to survive, never mind excel. It's a job some people would kill for. But most prefer to let Timmer take the risks while they watch from the safety of their homes. Reed Timmer is a star of Storm Chasers, one of the Discovery Channel's top-rated shows. Into the Storm is Timmer's dramatic account of his extraordinary profession.

Many good stories of his career as a storm chaser.

Historia
From the glaciers of the Alps to the towering cumulonimbus clouds of the Caribbean and the unexpectedly chaotic flows of the North Atlantic, Waters of the World is a tour through 150 years of the history of a significant but underappreciated idea: that the Earth has a global climate system made up of interconnected parts, constantly changing on all scales of both time and space. A prerequisite for the discovery of global warming and climate change, this idea was forged by scientists studying water in its myriad forms. This is their story.

Not a “dry” book!
Revisado: 07-14-24
I loved this book because it not only discussed the water cycle of the world, but it provided an engaging narrative about the history of meteorology, oceanography, and climatology.
Many great stories were fleshed out. This audio book is a must for anyone in the field. Graduate students and early career professionals can learn from these stories.
Narration was straightforward and appropriate.
Interesting that a book about how Water works was written by an author named Dry 😁

Good resource for teachers
Revisado: 07-05-24
He made a lot of apologies at the beginning, as to what type of book this is, and who would be reading it. There was no need to do that, although this book is perhaps for a specific audience.
In addition to those who are interested in learning more about the subject, I think that this audiobook can be good resource for teachers. Perhaps graduate TA instructors or high school Earth Science teachers.
Although I already knew all of the material, I was interested in hearing the explanations and examples given. I have taught these topics, but it is always useful to hear another take on how to word an explanation, an example or some alternative analogies. These are worth listening to.
Driving and listening to this, I found myself thinking that I might "steal" some of his explanations/examples when I teach a related course. However, there were also a few times, when I was thinking "this is not expressed correctly". But that is OK, There is more than one way to (skin a cat) -- describe how the atmosphere works.

Historia
The weather is the foundation of our daily lives. It’s a staple of small talk, the app on our smartphones, and often the first thing we check each morning. Yet behind these quotidian interactions is one of the most expansive machines human beings have ever constructed - a triumph of science, technology, and global cooperation. But what is this "weather machine" and who created it?

This is not.an overall or introductory meteorology textbook. Instead it tells about how different types of forecasts are made and the history of weather science.

Historia
We live at the bottom of an ocean of air - 5,200 million million tons, to be exact. It sounds like a lot, but Earth’s atmosphere is smeared onto its surface in an alarmingly thin layer - 99 percent contained within 18 miles. Yet, within this fragile margin lies a magnificent realm - at once gorgeous, terrifying, capricious, and elusive. With his keen eye for identifying and uniting seemingly unrelated events, Chris Dewdney reveals to us the invisible rivers in the sky that affect how our weather works and the structure of clouds and storms and seasons, the rollercoaster of climate.

Atmospheric anecdotes
Revisado: 05-17-24
A good natural science book that anyone of any meteorological background can enjoy.
In some ways it sounds like a textbook, but not stuffy. It is often entertaining.
I have heard some of the anecdotes before, some were new to me. I may use some later for my course. It is worth a listen.
The narrator sounded a little like Rod Sterling, but that is not a bad thing.
The chapters are not titled and are actually mis numbered. Chapter 1 is an introduction, so that the real Chapter 1 is listed as Chapter 2 and so on.

The story begins on a windswept beach in Barbados, from where we follow the ascent of a weather balloon that will travel along the jet stream all around the world. From this viewpoint we observe the effect of the jet in influencing human life around the hemisphere, and witness startling changes emerging. What is the jet stream and how well do we understand it? How does it affect our weather and is it changing? These are the main questions tackled in this book.

More than another climate change rant
Revisado: 05-12-24
I loved this audiobook. They set it up well by telling the story of a high altitude balloon journey.
I liked how it was narrated and the overall tone is approachable for any level.
I thought it would be another rant and warning about global warming but it was much more than that. The author does a great job of explaining the science in an understandable way. I also liked that a little history of science was also worked into the narrative.
I looked up the print version on Amazon, and as another reviewer wrote, the book lacks significant graphics.
If you just want to listen, this book is near perfect.
