Not tough to figure out the ending...
Revisado: 03-02-21
...given what happens to other characters earlier in the story. I was more left dissatisfied at the lack of story development...(sigh) it’s a short story yes - but it feels more like the summary of a book than a short story.

Historia
On rare occasion, a fascinating artist will endeavor to peel back the curtain and truly reveal themselves: Their craft, their thoughts, their pain, their humanity. But it is even more rare that the artist actually possesses the range of gifts to pull it off. St. Vincent is such an artist. And St. Vincent: Words plus Music is such an experience.

This made me fall in love with an artist with which I was only vaguely familiar prior to listening...so cool to have the music paired with some insider info - told direct from the artist!

Disappointed in how ‘meh’ this was...
Revisado: 10-21-20
The narrator was decent, and the story line is interesting. This is an easy read...and overall it’s... fine. Given the press on this book and the number of times I heard it recommended, I expected much more. It was ‘meh’ and I was disappointed.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Mixed feelings...
Revisado: 08-08-20
As a white woman, it felt slimy to know that another white woman wrote this book...yes, she appears to be enlightened and open-minded. Also, is a white woman the most knowledgeable person to be telling (slash preaching) this story? I ask genuinely, as I am still sorting through mixed feelings.

Just couldn’t get into the characters...
Revisado: 08-08-20
Much hyped book that I wanted to love - but even til the end, I kept waiting to relate to the characters, or at least feel some strong emotion toward them.

Interesting concept, not my favorite
Revisado: 06-17-20
The story started out, grabbing my attention. Then it became a bit off the wall - attack frogs what?? -and the sound effects made for a frantic listening experience at times. I powered through it - decent listening for a road trip - but I don’t prefer these theatrical listening experiences.

Slow to start, strong finish
Revisado: 06-02-20
It took me a while to get into this book - the first third seems slow. But in light of the strong finish, hindsight reveals the authors craftsmanship of character development.
On another note, the narrator of Annie, an aging southern white woman, has a inexplicable Canadian/northern US accent.
