Outstanding Narrator!
Revisado: 07-12-24
I’ve listened to every book in this series and have enjoyed them all. The narrator offers a superb performance and really brings the characters to life.
I now want to find any other books he may have done 👍

Life is the Journey not the Destination
Revisado: 02-12-19
I had no idea what this book was about or where it was going to lead me, and it was a completely different genre for me but I took a chance and I liked it! I loved the different narrators and actors, the fast paced stories within a story, but most of all the clever 'moral of the story' aha moments. Lots of characters we can recognize that allow ourselves to self reflect and absorb a good piece of advice. I gave it 4* as during the middle I found it to lose some of it's initial momentum and by the end I was ready for it to finish. But, I still gave it a high rating as there were many enjoyable moments I found myself sharing with others.

Historia
When twenty-two-year-old Jennifer Worth, from a comfortable middle-class upbringing, went to work as a midwife in the direst section of postwar London, she not only delivered hundreds of babies and touched many lives, she also became the neighborhood';s most vivid chronicler. Woven into the ongoing tales of her life in the East End are the true stories of the people Worth met who grew up in the dreaded workhouse, a Dickensian institution that limped on into the middle of the twentieth century.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Heartwarming, Honest, & Harrowing Tales of Truth
Revisado: 06-19-18
Loved this book and about to purchase the next one. I had watch the series on TV so knew what to expect and recognized many of the stories and characters which really brought it to life. The Narrator does an excellent job and can throw her voice in all directions!
My only complaint and hence the 4 stars was the brutally frank description of the Whore House and the explicit nature of the scene. Granted it showed the awful conditions subjected by an easy victim, but the details left me feeling disturbed all day. I finally skipped this chapter so I could get back to the more 'feel good' anecdotes. These memoirs are well documented and those listening along will be swept back to the 1950s England and imagining how life was for our Grandparents ... Enjoy!
