Wonderful story, artfully told.
The narrator was exquisite.
The recoding, about half way through, started pulsing in volume. Ten seconds full, then fading to 1/4 volume, then working back to full, then repeat. Like the swells of the sea in the tale, the audio volume waxed and waned. This made it frustratingly difficult listening in my room as I worked about. Sometimes it was too loud. Others too soft. No perfect medium obtainable.

With every few seconds garbling and scratching this was rendered unlistenable.
I tried re-downloading, thinking that maybe the download had become corrupt but ended up with the same result.
I would have liked to have heard the story. Maybe a different recording in another Summer.

well narrated but little known story of bravery and heroism. I particularly enjoyed the knowlegde that WWII soldier stories weren't always about killing an enemy.
People learning others' cultures and cooperating for the greater good always makes a great story.

I was not expecting much when I started the book but became engrossed in the principles expressed. I took notes and relistened to several chapters. This is a game-changer for me.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a beautifully written and narrated history of the American continent told through the history of the Mississippi river basin. I am frequently overcome by Mr. Schneider's visual imagery, especially as narrated by Alan Sklar. I wanted to be in my own kayak, navigating the "Old Man River", viewing the history, both ancient and modern, as related and elaborated upon, by him. I could see the murky swirls in the river's eddys. I could feel the river mud seeping between my barefoot toes as I dragged them, Huck Finn style, along the banks. The fireflies of Natchez and the sweet smell of decaying plant life in the marshes.
Mr. Schneider's dry wit decorates this eloquent narrative throughout, frequently bringing half-smiles to my lips.

Any additional comments?

A truly enjoyable listen. I would recommend this for your next road trip, or lazy day.

Would you consider the audio edition of Eat to Live to be better than the print version?

I really would have liked the essential visuals. As such, I am going out and buying the book right now! (Just finished listening an hour ago.)

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

There was obviously very inadequate editing. Many, many, many times he started, then corrected his words. He is a very East Coast accent, mispronounces MANY words. (the most irritating for me was the hundred times he sat "Sigh-a-Tee" instead of "Sat-I-a-Tee" The word is "Satiety" not "saiety").

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

He makes a good foundational case for the extreme diet modification discussed.
I have to wonder, as he does about other commercialized weight-loss programs, "If his diet DOES reverse angiographically documented coronary artery disease, like he repeatedly says, WHY hasn't HE done a Prospective, Controlled, Angiographically Documented research study?" Hey, he could call it the "P-CAD Study"! Show me the data! And I'm not talking Star Trek!

Any additional comments?

I am a physician. Like him, I see hundreds of diabetic-obese patients. I will be incorporating his general principles into my practice -- already have!

I am not an economist. But I dare say that I am better educated in economics now than most who claim the profession. I was fascinated by the direct relevence to modern economy that Mr. Smith's views of the English monetary system bare out.
Quite often I did get lost in the quantities of money mentioned (One Million four hundred thirty thousand pounds, 62 shilling, eight pence, etc.), however, the concepts are marvelous. Going into this book I knew nothing about Adam Smith (maybe he was mentioned in my Econ 100 class?). I am convinced that this man was a genius in the workings of money.
His discussion on Stock; Rotating, Capital, etc was quite beneficial to my current medical practice. As I have listened to this book I have come to better understand my role as physician, office manager, computer support, and marketer. I used to think that I was doing well, making more money than most physicians in my specialty, however, I certainly don't make enough to compensate me for all of the full-time employees jobs that I do personally.
As such I have redefined my own business plan, streamlining and outsourcing much of the non-physician work I was doing. And... I am making more money because of it. Another reviewer here said this book wasn't relevant to our time. I say, Ha! Listen again, and LISTEN this time!

Ben Kingsley is an excellent narrator for this set of volumes. The presentation was quite well structured. I learned some new insights into Christianity. My fundamental purpose in purchasing was to understand the roots of the Middle Eastern problems. This analysis more than fulfilled my goal. I feel 'enlightened' as to the eternal conflicts that have, do, and will continue to exist there. I am hoping that an Audible version of the Quran will be made available. I am intrigued.
