Historia
The Monastery at Whitby is ruled over by the powerful and independent Abbess Hild. But when she needs someone to confide in, she turns to the honest warmth of her friend Fridgyth, the half-pagan herb-wife. A divisive and life-altering decision taken at the Great Synod is swiftly overshadowed as the monastery is ravaged by a deadly plague. As she tends the sick, Fridgyth starts to suspect that not all the deaths are natural. Despite Hild's stern warnings "not to meddle" she sets out to investigate.

Good try but so clichéd, simplistic, and hackneyed, I gave up. Extremely predictable and pedantic.

Historia
Alexandra Fuller tells the idiosyncratic story of her life growing up white in rural Rhodesia as it was becoming Zimbabwe. The daughter of hardworking, yet strikingly unconventional English-bred immigrants, Alexandra arrives in Africa at the tender age of two. She moves through life with a hardy resilience, even as a bloody war approaches. Narrator Lisette Lecat reads this remarkable memoir of a family clinging to a harsh landscape and the dying tenets of colonialism.

Cynical conflation of two tragedies
- De Buretto en 03-26-22
Such an incredible amount of waffle!
Revisado: 10-08-22
So much filler material, we go into the life histories of everyone even vaguely, peripherally connected, the black/white angle monotonously repeated and then a supernatural angle wedged uncomfortably in also.
It's awful what happened to this poor girl, I'm so sorry that there are @rseholes like her murderer out there in the world but this book is definitely one to avoid.

It feels like this book was written to a recipe.
Repetitive, simplistic, and drawn-out.
It reads as if the author was writing for a target audience of imbeciles.
Nothing like her earlier books.

Loved the New Zealand setting but otherwise only another zombie type story, even free I can't complete listening. Might be good for guys who like hearing about repetitive gun-fighting, blood and gore.

Yes, it's okay but what I found irritating was Anna clinging to her faithfulness to Nick in the face of torture or death and Nick with his three girlfriends having sex whenever he could, telling us he loved them all (in different ways) ugh.

Historia
Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. law firm with 800 lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was three years away. He was a rising star with no time to waste, no time to stop, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers. No time for a conscience. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this man?

Grisham writes so well but this, for me, is his best book, his characters are very similar to people I've met in the social/homeless community. Thanks to him and others with a conscience.
