Not the best
Revisado: 02-24-21
I eagerly purchased on release date. Have always enjoyed this historical series by this writing team and the detailed plot lines. Sadly this one had way too many characters and places and much rushing back and forth and thus became difficult to follow. Could almost have done with a dramatis personae. May be better in print version

Historia
A few years after losing his wife and young son in a tragic accident, Alaska state trooper Liam Campbell has finally begun to make a new life in Newenham, a remote fishing village of proud, independent natives where the currents of loyalty, fear, and violence run deep. Campbell's latest investigation into a seemingly routine homicide, a robbery gone bad, becomes something else when the first murder is followed by a second, then a third.

Shame about the narrator
Revisado: 03-27-10
I have downloaded well over 100 books since 2004. I have to give my award for the worst narration to date to Gavin. I spent the first 10 minutes wondering if it was just a computer reading the text. But no, it was the narrator with no expression or intonation in her voice. I have just given up listening at about the 25min mark - the story was shaping up well but I couldn't bear to listen any more! A waste of a credit.

Historia
Set in the turbulent times of 12th century England where civil war, famine, religious strife, and battles over royal succession tore lives and families apart, The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of the building of a magnificent cathedral. Against this richly imagined backdrop, filled with intrigue and treachery, Ken Follett draws the reader irresistibly into a wonderful epic of family drama, violent conflict, and unswerving ambition.

No doubt a good book but spoiled by being poorly abridged - and of course no unabridged version available in my geographical location!
