It's a treat to get to listen to this story again. It's a classic for good reason, and the narration is excellent.

Historia
Austen wrote, 'I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like' and thus introduces the handsome, clever, rich - and flawed, Emma Woodhouse. Emma is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage; nothing however delights her more than matchmaking her fellow residents of Highbury. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.

Perfect for any fan of Emma and audio plays. Each chapter is functionally an episode, and the performances are splendid!

Interesting Thoughts
Revisado: 08-07-20
To preface this, I have no children, and no plans in the near future to have children, so I listened to this more as a curiosity than anything.
I think, for someone who doesn't have to worry about my own children, this is a very interesting look at what this pandemic could mean for the future of the next generation.
However, it is very short, so for those considering listening to this, I would caution you that it is more of a stimulus to make you think for yourself than a thing that offers you answers.

Historia
With Earth rapidly becoming inhospitable to human life, GS Archean carries a one-way crew of courageous passengers to Uelara, an Earth-like planet in the Cieri star system. Uelara is ideal, except for one minor detail - its distance from Earth. Traveling at sub-light speed, the generation ship won’t reach Uelara within the original crew’s lifetime. Eager to reach Uelara, the second-gen crew prepares, as planned, to assume their parents’ responsibilities - that is, until someone goes missing and a devastating secret is discovered, putting the future of the human race in jeopardy.

Very Contrived
Revisado: 05-27-20
This is a sci-fi book about a spaceship civilization en route to a planet intended as humanity's new home.
It's hard to articulate what frustrated me so much without spoiling the book, so doing my best... This story hinges upon two pet peeves of mine:
1. Conflicts that come because someone did something obviously idiotic, like an entire generation lying to their children into adulthood about something that they were inevitably going to learn.
2. Mob mentality as a source of conflict, with no deeper meaning or insight into anything.
3. Civilization different from our own, where people who grew up there have the same wants as we would in their shoes, even though it makes less sense for them.
Basically, this is a liars revealed plot on steroids, plus Lord of the Flies without the societal commentary.
I also wonder at the limitations of technology in this setting, which seemed designed to maximize conflict, which while good for a story, seems very foolish for a survival of the species mission.
KIND-OF-A-SPOILER ABOUT THE CENTRAL CONFLICT:
It just doesn't click with me that the secret needed to be kept, or the lie needed to be told. It seems to me that the lie created this sparkly vision of the future, and that was the problem. Individual dissatisfaction, had these kids grown up knowing the truth, could have been manageable in a way that it was never going to be if these kids grew up on a lie. Geez.

Mostly focuses on the Polynesian and Egyptian origins of the Greek school of mathematics, with a little bit about Asia.

In contrast to some of the other options in this series, this one is startling at first, but has worked flawlessly every time. I don't believe I've ever stayed awake long enough to listen to more than 10mins.

Grating Background Noise
Revisado: 05-23-20
I tried this twice: once as a normal meditation, and once as sleep assistance. It worked for neither, despite my exhaustion when I was trying to sleep. As I'd breathe as instructed, I'd notice the way my heart was pounding, and breathing became more difficult...
And when I stopped listening to the words and started just listening, I realized that it was the background noise. It sets me on edge. No relaxation or sleep is happening to that noise in my ear.
It's not the instrument itself, but rather the volume relative to the speaker, and the single continuous note.
Not grating enough for me to immediately turn off this track...just grating enough to stoke my insomnia.

Good as an Intro to Meditation
Revisado: 05-18-20
I liked this for the most part, but I have my position in which I meditate, and having instructions contradict that at the start was a little less than ideal. I liked the part where it focused on breathing, but that was probably only about half the time of the actual recording, which isn't that long to begin with.
