Historia
Drawing on years of investigation and Anne Lister’s five-million-word secret journal, Learned by Heart is the long-buried love story of Eliza Raine, an orphan heiress banished from India to England at age six, and Anne Lister, a brilliant, troublesome tomboy, who meet at the Manor School for young ladies in York in 1805 when they are both fourteen. Emotionally intense, psychologically compelling, and deeply researched, Learned by Heart is an extraordinary work of fiction by one of the world’s greatest storytellers.

Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Gut honest and heartbreaking
Revisado: 01-14-23
I have always grasped the fairy tale. I now see that it is not a fairy tale, it is no less than a living, breathing corporation.
I understand that there are two sides to every story and that being the case, I have questioned every detail and find Harry's story to be credible. He didn't hide behind his title and spared few details. I didn't see the book as a "he said, she said" though I was quite surprised to see the negative side of people I had admired. I did learn a bit about the British and royal protocol and that helped to better understand how they think and what they do.
Much of the story was heartbreaking and brought me to tears but it was obvious that Harry made every attempt to look past the behavior of his loved ones to better understand not just who they were but why they were the way they were. I wasn't shocked to learn of Charles and William's true colors, however, Kate and the Queen were a shock. I was surprised at how the Queen was easily manipulated and Kate seems to be a "pot stirrer". Early on, Harry was seen as a screw up but now has become a warm, intelligent, motivated individual. He was resented when he was young and now that he has it together, he is even more resented. As long as Kate, Charles, William and Camilla are in the limelight and putting on their best show, they seem admirable but when someone else shines, they become jealous and spiteful, or perhaps their hidden selves come out in the light.
The thing is the royal family grew up differently than most of us and they do have a set protocol so "there but for the grace of God go I".
This is a good read and one I will probably listen to again someday.

Triggers
Revisado: 10-30-21
While this is an excellent book about the history of women's struggles to be relevant, it is also shocking and can be a trigger for women who have experienced trauma in their lives. It can also be shocking to the senses and I wanted to stop reading it but I found I had to know how it ended. Well, it didn't. It turned out that it was the first book in a trilogy and I had started with the second. Now, I m re-listening to the second book in the series now that my questions have been answered, Do not read this book expecting to find happiness and/or a positive message, there isn't any or one. That being said, it held my interest and seemed gut honest about the way it was in that time period. I recommend it for the hardcore historical fiction reader and Phillipa Gregory fan but not for the self-righteous.

Greed Took Over....

Loved it until...
Revisado: 06-28-21
Today I listened to Wanted: Killer on the high bridge. In the last few days I was complimentary of the presentation and the way the host and co-host worked together and had an obvious respect and caring for each other. But today, Brittany kept interrupting Ashley with a lot of what Dr. Phil would call "right fighting". or "arguing".Ashley is a very good listener and tries to handle the situation as best she can but today, she just went silent giving Brittany the respect of not arguing. I don't like to bash but on the other hand, I don't; have a right to complain unless I try to do something about the problem.
All that being said, this may have been one of their first recordings. I have binge listened to 192 episodes. I do appreciate the recommendations.

Painful
Revisado: 01-02-20
I wish I could say I have never experienced verbal, emotional and physical abuse but I have indeed. I know what it is like to feel trapped, torn between love and hate, and being too complacent to run or report. Leaving my ex was the most freeing thing I have ever done though it was not easy. I could not escape the relief enough to get the financial rewards I deserved or to report the abuse. Like these girls, my need to believe and compassion for his emotional pain was too strong. My fear suffocating. I was in their skin through the entire book.
Though my mother was not physically abusive, through her alcoholism she was emotionally and verbally abusive at times. I am still struggling to get past the past in order to accept completely the person she is today. This book literally hit home.
I am a fairly new fan of the author but I find his books not only keep my interest but the stories can be addictive.

Historia
Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with.
