So good and then also not
Revisado: 04-06-24
There’s a lot to like here but also not to like. The first half is the most compelling but also the most depressing and disturbing. The second half doesn’t seem to fit well with the first, and has some pretty cliche plot points. And the ending is too abrupt and needs to be fleshed out more IMO.
I’ve read that there is some material at the end that helps explain the ending… and Acknowledgements and Afterword… but sadly, they aren’t included in the audiobook and I can’t find them anywhere online.

I feel seen
Revisado: 06-03-23
So much of what she writes feel like she’s seen my life and been inside my head. Describing my mundane life but adding a fantastical adventure to it. Her voice is so perfect for this too! Thank you Brandi!

Historia
Sometimes you slip through the cracks: unforeseen circumstances like an abrupt illness, the death of a loved one, a breakup, or a job loss can derail a life. These periods of dislocation can be lonely and unexpected. For May, her husband fell ill, her son stopped attending school, and her own medical issues led her to leave a demanding job. Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered. Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times.

Love the literal and metaphorical winters. Realness. Especially in the last chapter. I look forward to reading more by this author. Love her perspective.
