Sweet and amusing read
Revisado: 04-14-25
It was refreshing and funny. However it felt like maybe the first half was better written than the second. Pacing was a bit wonky. Still overall pleasant and entertaining. Caution: more talk of illness and mortality than one might expect from the genre.

All trope, and sadness but no romance
Revisado: 08-28-24
*spoiler*
There isn’t even a kiss. A sort of vaguely intimated one but really? Also there is some very unstable behavior (boundaries) on behalf of both the main characters.

Historia
When Lilah Goodluck saves the life of Good Witch Willow as they’re crossing a busy L.A. street, the last thing she expects is five unwanted predictions as a reward. Who gives someone the winning lotto numbers then tells them they’ve only got a week to live? And who believes in that nonsense anyway? But when the first three predictions come true within twenty-four hours, Lilah’s disbelief turns to mild panic. She’s further horrified when she nearly runs a car off the road that belongs to Alistair Lennox, who just happens to be the illegitimate son of the British king.

It was just a really enjoyable book - a little more talk of death and dying than I’d anticipated for a romcom but worth it. Hot and lovely. Andy Arnt does a fantastic job performing as always.

Historia
Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot's rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society and made elegance and glamour her business. She's riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she's blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start - and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

Not bad but also not my favorite Molly Harper.
Revisado: 08-22-24
This could be an adorable lovely read for the right audience or with some pointed editing but it was not my cup of tea.
I really wanted to like the lead character but it’s maybe the first Molly Harper lead female that I did not enjoy. The main male character also felt unexciting. They both felt implausible and floppy and codependent.
It’s got a lot of storylines and relationships with both too much info and not enough to complete them.
I think there were an ambitious number of character’s for the narrator to tackle - she does an impressive job trying to *except young kids are apparently not her forte.
Also I’m not sure if my device /playback malfunctioned (would be a first of this type, but possible) but the audio weirdly sped up /slowed down in a couple short spots.

Revisado: 05-10-24
Having watched the show first I was skeptical if I would love the books as much. I almost love them more even though some of my least favorite things happened this book- the first in the series I’ve read- still 1000x worth it.

Historia
It's my second year training to become a Sentry of the South at Spellslingers Academy of Magic and I'm still fighting a reputation I don't deserve. It was my grandmother's addiction to magic that tarnished our family name - a grandmother I still love and adore. When she asks a favor of me, I can't refuse her dying wish...and it sets off a chain of events I never expected. With the help of a charming and sexy druid, I set out to locate a missing professor, but what we discover is far worse than we ever imagined.

The f narrator was a bit too Wisconsin- distractingly
Revisado: 10-18-23
If the charachter had been from Wisconsin- cool, but as they hadn’t even basic words became drahgone, al-fhaaa, and moe-mark. Also I give her credit for trying the four male voices but west sounded like Oscar the grouch. Also i found her pacing odd during fight and spicy scenes.
Even now Arden seemed a bit like Oscar the grouch.
Finally while an interesting premise it is incredibly sexist fatalist etc. Otherwise diverting though.

I'll never forget the first time I saw them, warriors moving like shadows from the trees. Their eyes seemed to glow with a fierce golden light, moving more like beasts than men. I trembled, every hair on my flesh prickled in the age old response of the hunted. They were predators and I was prey.

Disturbing less for content and more for the weird narration
Revisado: 07-12-23
First it’s ridiculously slow - not the story but the reading. I’m guessing this was done post recording as I cannot imagine a human particularly a Scot speaking this ridiculously slow.
Second, the performance is creepy. The narrator has a nice voice, though he mispronounces a few words (no I’m not referring to the accent) I could otherwise enjoy listening to him. Unfortunately he misapplies it terribly when it comes to the female making her seem like a mono-tonal dissociated sociopath. Which given the non consensual content lends an extra ick factor with that affectation. He seems to be able to inflect some emotion occasionally in male characters but the female is entirely flat- disturbingly so.
I’d have returned it if it were eligible (bought it for sale (not enough of one) rather then credit- beginning to learn my lesson w that.
